Huge shoutout to the fabulous Dr. Catherine Sotir! She was awarded the first ever Humanism award given by the UNC school of medicine that was voted on by the students she teaches and the impact she has on their education! Congratulations Dr. Sotir!!

For May 2023, we’re thrilled to feature Dr. Janalynn Beste for the NCAFP Member Spotlight! She's the residency program director at the Novant Health Family Medicine Residency in Wilmington, and she does work that many of her colleagues commend.
When we interviewed Dr. Beste about her impact, she deflected: “One of the reasons why I’ve been able to do a lot of things is that I surround myself with really good people,” she said. “I can’t take credit for these things."

Dr. Kraus will begin her fellowship upon residency graduation, June 2023.

Our program has a rich and long history of sharing holiday spirit with families in need. This year, we engaged in a giving opportunity to support Good Shepherd Center, whose mission is to feed the hungry, shelter the homeless, and foster transition to housing.

So proud to be in the company of such wonderful people all year long, but particularly during this season of giving and sharing!

We are so pleased To welcome Dr. Erin Sherwin, PharmD, CPP to our faculty! Here are some fun facts about her:

"Originally from Memphis, TN, I went to college at the University of Tennessee in Knoxville (go Vols!) before completing my PharmD at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center back home. I went on to do a PGY1 Pharmacy Practice Residency at the Birmingham VA Medical Center in Birmingham, AL, followed by a PGY2 Ambulatory Care Pharmacy Residency at University of Kentucky HealthCare. I knew early on in my pharmacy education that I wanted a patient-facing clinical role and my training solidified my passion for primary care, research, and teaching. This led me to Novant Family Medicine Wilmington and I am thrilled to serve the community here in Wilmington.

In my free time, I enjoy exploring the town, trying new restaurants, live music, the arts, reading, and swimming. I also love to travel and have many places on my bucket list. Some fun facts about me are that I actually minored in German in college (though I want to learn Spanish!), and I can sing!"

Every two years, a group of our residents, attendings and nursing staff will make their way down to the Dominican Republic to help with healthcare needs in the country. Since COVID, we haven’t been able to go in about 6 years… until now! (Currently not being effected by tropical storm Fiona, just some rain!)
