To preserve and maintain the precious gift of eyesight is an awesome responsibility. Simon, OD, accepted that responsibility by launching a private optometric practice in Wilmington, DE. From the beginning, he put patients’ needs first. "I always believed that if I treated everyone as being part of my family, I would do what was best for each of them,” says Dr. Simon. https://twitter.com/SimonEyeAssoc | http://pinterest.com/simoneye/ | http://www.simoneye.com/blog

November is Diabetic Eye Disease Awareness Month!

This week's topic: What is Nonproliferative Diabetic Retinopathy (NPDR)?

With diabetes, high blood sugar over time can damage the tiny blood vessels in the back of the eye (the retina).
In the early stage called nonproliferative diabetic retinopathy (NPDR),
• Vessel walls weaken, and tiny bulges may appear.
• Fluid or small amounts of blood can leak into the retina.
• Vision can still appear normal.

That's why Annual Eye Exams are critical, even if you sight seems fine. Early detection gives you the best chance to protect your vision long-term! At Simon Eye, we believe in the power of preventative care.

Dr. Maus answers a good question about pediatric eye care: At what age should kids have their first eye exam?

As Dr. Maus explains, it’s a good idea to start eye exams by 1 year old to ensure eyesight is developing as your child grows.

Middletown went totally 80’s!
Our Middletown team had a blast yesterday bringing back the era of funky town hair, neon, and “Let’s Get Physical!” 🎶 From leg warmers to bright colors and big smiles, it was all about fun, teamwork, and a little nostalgia.

We love seeing our teams show their spirit and creativity! What a great reminder that a little fun goes a long way in keeping our energy high and our patients smiling!

Happy Halloween! We have a few reminders to keep in mind while you get ready for this evening's festivities.
1. Contacts require a prescription for a reason! Wearing non-prescription contacts can result in eye infections, corneal scratches, and more.
2. Be careful with your makeup. Don't fall asleep in your eye makeup; avoid sharing; and ensure you're using cosmetic-grade eye makeup, not the cheap costume stuff!

We're wishing everyone a happy and safe Halloween!

October is Contact Safety Month, and Dr. Benjamin Zwolan has some advice about those costume contacts and cosmetics ahead of Halloween this weekend!

“Halloween makeup and costume contacts can complete your look but don’t let them scare your eyes!

Use only cosmetic-grade makeup (never craft glitter or paint).
Put your contacts in before applying makeup and remove them before taking it off.
Skip costume lenses unless prescribed by your eye doctor.
Always wash your hands and never share makeup or lenses. If your eyes feel red, itchy, or irritated - remove everything and call your eye doctor right away!”

We had a great time at the Casino at Delaware Park’s Annual Health & Wellness Fair last Friday!

Our Regional Manager, Molly Rarus, and Optician, Judy Powell, from our Pike Creek location, spent the day connecting with employees and sharing the importance of annual eye exams for maintaining overall health and wellness.

It’s always a pleasure to support our local community employers and their teams! Thank you for welcoming us and prioritizing vision care!

October is Contact Lens Safety Month and at Simon Eye, we're committed to helping you see clearly and safely.

Wearing contact lenses offers freedom and flexibility, but only when handled with care. Poor lens hygiene can lead to discomfort, infection, or even long-term eye damage.

Here are a few essential tips to keep your eyes healthy:
✅ Wash and dry hands before handling lenses
✅ Don't sleep with contacts in
✅ Replace your case every 1-3 months
✅ Avoid water exposure – no swimming or showering in lenses
✅ Stick to the replacement schedule set by your eye doctor

Your eyes are too important to risk. If you have questions about your lenses or want a contact lens exam, our experienced doctors at Simon Eye are here to help, with convenient locations throughout Delaware providing eye care for life.

Let’s make safe vision a priority this October! 👓
