Last week, our amazing team—Jen (Dietitian), Heather (RT), and Gabbi (Life Enrichment Coordinator)—took participants on a flavorful journey to Spain!

Gabbi shared a sweet memory of her grandmother making authentic Spanish hot chocolate, and we brought that tradition to life. Using whole milk, Nestlé Abuelita chocolate, and cinnamon sticks simmered to creamy perfection, we recreated this decadent treat.

And what pairs better with rich cocoa than crispy churros rolled in cinnamon and sugar? Participants dipped, savored, and smiled through every bite.

✨ This wasn’t just a snack—it was a delicious cultural experience that warmed hearts and taste buds alike!

Today, we honor the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., along with his tireless work in promoting civil rights. King dedicated his life to speaking out against inequality, injustice, poverty, and war before being assassinated in 1968. This national holiday also seeks to draw attention to King's use of non-violence to bring about meaningful change and to his belief in the value of public service.

🎶 Music, Memories & Meaningful Moments at Elderhaus PACE! 🎶

Last week, thanks to Chelsea from Wilmington Funeral & Cremation, our participants enjoyed an incredible Music Therapy session led by the talented Tara Jenkins, a Board-Certified Music Therapist right here in Wilmington!

The room was alive with rhythm as everyone joined in—playing instruments, singing along, and even getting creative by rewriting the classic “In the Jungle” into a festive winter wonderland tune. ❄️✨

It was an afternoon filled with laughter, connection, and the joy that only music can bring. Thank you, Tara, for sharing your gift with us! ❤️

Kickback Jack's Wilmington was the place to be last Wednesday!

The RT and Transportation departments packed up a van with hungry participants who were ready to indulge in their favorites—Shrimp Caesar salads, juicy burgers, fall-off-the-bone ribs, and seafood platters that didn’t disappoint! 🥗🍔🍖🦐

We had incredible customer service from the team at Kickback Jack's Wilmington, and we left with full stomachs and great memories!

Nothing says comfort like a gooey grilled cheese paired with a steaming bowl of tomato soup! 🥪🍅

Last week, our Cooking Club gathered for a classic favorite—grilled cheese and tomato soup—and it was the perfect menu for a chilly day. The aroma filled the room, the laughter was contagious, and every bite brought back warm memories.

Our participants loved this cozy meal so much, they’ve already asked for a repeat! ❤️

✨ We ended 2025 in style!

One of our participants dreamed of a black-and-white themed party—and we made it happen! 🖤🤍 The recreation team transformed the tree and set the scene for an elegant celebration. Guests enjoyed cheese & crackers, sparkling grape juice, and great music with friends. What a perfect way to wrap up the year! 🎉

One of our favorite activities at Elderhaus? “You Be the Judge!” In this lively program, our recreation team reads real-life court cases to participants—some of these stories are downright wild! Everyone gets to share their opinions and debate what they think the verdict should be.

Today was extra special because we had our very own “Judge Judy” presiding over the courtroom! 👩‍⚖️✨

We had an absolute blast decorating Christmas sugar cookies! Our participants got super creative with white, red, and green frosting, sprinkles, and plenty of holiday cheer. From festive Christmas trees and Santa faces to personalized initials and fun designs—every cookie was a masterpiece!

The morning was filled with laughter, Christmas music, and quality time together. Some cookies were too good to leave the room (we couldn’t resist!), while others were carefully bagged to take home and share.

Elderhaus is honored to be a 2025 grantee of The Endowment, whose mission to advance health, education, safety, and economic opportunity for New Hanover County residents aligns powerfully with our own. This generous support enables us to expand enrollment, enhance service delivery, and deepen our community outreach.

With this funding, Elderhaus will support and grow services and strategic planning through operating and capital support:

• Increase access to care
• Strengthen financial sustainability
• Grow community engagement
• Advance strategic planning
