Elderhaus

Elderhaus was the first PACE (Program of All-inclusive Care for the Elderly) in North Carolina.

Elderhaus PACE is a complete health care program that offers a more personal way of getting health care. PACE is based upon the successful long-term care model in San Francisco known as On Lok. This program was developed as a special health plan for senior citizens. Older people often have medical problems that last for long periods of time. This health plan will arrange for doctors, nurses or other specially trained people to help with these problems. It gives Elderhaus PACE participants a place to go to receive care. Elderhaus PACE includes Elderhaus at the Lake, an Adult Day Center and Elderhaus at the Canterbury Center.

🏃‍♀️🦃 Turkey Trot Fun at Its Finest! 🦃🏃‍♂️

The other day we hosted our Fourth Annual Turkey Trot, and it was full of laughs and friendly competition! Five amazing employees and interns battled it out in a series of festive challenges:

✨ Cranberry Crossing – Using a straw to transport fresh cranberries (yes, it’s harder than it sounds!)
✨ Traffic Yam – Zig-zagging through cones while balancing a yam on a spoon 🥔
✨ Pilgrim Parkway – Racing to complete a Thanksgiving jigsaw puzzle!

In the end, Top Turkey went to Nurse Practitioner Kerri, who crushed it with an incredible time of 1:08.68! 🏆

The energy was high, the cheering was loud, and the fun was unforgettable. Thanks to everyone who joined in and made this tradition so special!

🦃✨ Turkey Pin Fun! ✨🦃

Our participants had an absolute blast getting creative for the upcoming holiday! They made adorable turkey pins using fuzzy pom-poms for the body, then added wings and feet to bring their turkeys to life.

The best part? Everyone loved showing off their creations by pinning them to their clothes! 🧡 Such a fun way to kick off the Thanksgiving spirit!

☕💙 Coffee + Community = The Perfect Day!

Our participants had an amazing time at Bitty & Beau's Coffee in Wilmington! This cozy spot has quickly become a favorite for relaxing, laughing, and enjoying great company with our Recreation team.

Nothing beats good coffee and even better conversations! 🥰 We’re so grateful for these moments that bring joy and connection.

🎉 Gobble Gobble & Ho Ho Ho! 🎉

We celebrated our 4th Annual Thanksgiving Parade at Elderhaus, and it was AMAZING! 🦃➡🎅 Just like Macy’s, our parade kicked off with a turkey and wrapped up with Santa!

Our participants and staff had a blast—especially one talented participant who stole the show as the turkey AND wowed us with the “Mashed Potato” dance! 🕺🥔

After a delicious lunch, we raffled off the parade “floats” to some very excited winners. 🏆 This tradition is one of our favorites, and we can’t wait to keep it going for years to come!

Our participants have kicked off a heartwarming Pen Pal Project! ✉️ They crafted beautiful homemade Thanksgiving cards to share with students from Trask Middle School’s chorus. The students will write back—and again for Christmas—before visiting Elderhaus to sing for our participants and meet in person! 🎶

Everyone had a blast writing about their favorite hobbies. One participant even told his pen pal that his favorite band is Lynyrd Skynyrd! 🤘

We love seeing these connections grow across generations. 💛

Last Friday’s bingo game came with a creative twist! The Recreation Department designed a special bingo featuring participants’ rights as PACE members. We were honored to have Harriet Forney, our Director of Quality and Compliance, join us for the event.

This fun and interactive activity gave participants a unique opportunity to learn how Elderhaus upholds and protects their rights—making education both enjoyable and meaningful.

Last week, our participants came together to create heartfelt, homemade thank-you cards for veterans. These cards were then shared with our own veterans—including staff members, participants, and even family members of our team who have served.

🚢 Lance’s Dream Came True!

Thanks to the EveryAge Grant a Dream™ program, funded by the EveryAge Foundation and the compassionate team at Elderhaus, Lance Saunders enjoyed a scenic cruise aboard the Henrietta—and even got to steer the boat! 🌊⚓

After the ride, Lance indulged in all the seafood he wanted at The Pilot House, smiling from ear to ear. This unforgettable day was made possible by Recreational Therapist Heather Muncie, who saw Lance’s lifelong dream and made it happen.
