Oral surgeons use sedatives for different reasons. Most commonly, they’re used for dental anxiety or for patients with a severe phobia of the dentist. They’re also frequently used for complex procedures where the patient wouldn’t want to be fully awake anyway.

Some oral surgeries require sedation. Your dental doctor closely monitors your vital signs during the sedation process to keep you safe if something happens.

While mouth cancer isn’t as common as many other types of cancer, it’s still a serious public health concern; more than 410,000 people in the U.S. are living with the condition. What’s most dangerous about oral cancers is that it’s difficult to detect them in the early stages. They often don’t cause any pain at first – just little physical changes.

While it is one of the less common cancers, oral cancer kills 10,000 people annually. The key to long-term survival is early detection and aggressive treatment.

Dental implants have become the gold standard for missing teeth. But will they last for your full lifetime? It depends on a number of factors.

Most people go to an oral surgeon for wisdom tooth extraction, not a dentist. Wisdom teeth removal doctors like Dr. Puckett are specially trained to perform this type of procedure, and by law, have extra training to administer the various type of anesthesia that are used during the surgery.

When you need wisdom teeth removed, you won’t be going to your dentist for the procedure. But they will probably be the one referring you out.
