Jewish Family Services of Delaware

Jewish Family Services (JFS) is a health and human services agency serving families within Delaware for over a century.

JFS offers outpatient behavioral health and counseling, services for older adults, youth and family support services, and refugee resettlement and émigré services to people without regard to race, ethnicity, socioeconomic status, religion, sexual orientation, or gender expression. Committed to continued expansion and deepening of our contributions to the vulnerable communities of Delaware, our vision for the agency is to use our evolving position as a key social service provider in Delaware to strengthen the support available to our most underserved populations. The agency is accredited by the Council on Accreditation and is a member of the United Way of Delaware, Jewish Federation of Delaware, and the national Association of Jewish Family and Children’s Agencies. JFS has received United Way's Community Impact Award, and has been named Lead Agency in the Delaware Aging Network, a consortium of over 50 organizations working together to serve older adults throughout the state.

We want to inform you that Sophie Namugenyi, Chief Program Officer, will be leaving us and moving on to new adventures. We extend our deepest gratitude for her 12 years of outstanding service, during which she has contributed expertise, strategic insight, kindness, and a remarkable passion for our work.

Sophie secured several multi-year contracts that extend through 2029 and 2030. She led the contract negotiations for the RISE program, which will enable JFS to support refugees through the upcoming contractual year.

“There is still so much meaningful work to be done and many lives to uplift," said Sophie. "I remain deeply hopeful and confident in JFS’s ability to continue overcoming challenges and making a lasting difference. Wishing JFS nothing but success in the years ahead."

Her dedication to the people we serve has been unwavering, and she will be greatly missed. Please join us in thanking her for all she has given to the agency and wishing her the very best in her next steps.

At the same time, we are pleased to announce that Wendell Covell has accepted the position of Chief Program Officer, effective January 1. We welcome him to the Executive Leadership Team and look forward to the leadership, perspective, and direction he will bring as he helps guide JFS into its next stage of growth.
