Happy Juneteenth! Each year, June 19, or Juneteenth, recalls the date in 1865 when all enslaved African-Americans in the US were made aware of the Emancipation Proclamation and were officially released from their bonds – some two years after President Abraham Lincoln had initially signed the proclamation. Juneteenth became a federal holiday in 2021 when President Biden signed it into law. Celebrations include picnics, rodeos, street fairs, cookouts, family reunions, park parties, historical reenactments, and blues festivals.

We honor those, named and unnamed, who made the ultimate sacrifice so that people throughout the world might enjoy security, peace, and opportunity. We are blessed by their selfless service.

Don't forget! Daylight Saving Time begins at 2 am on Sunday, March 9, so set your clocks ahead one hour before you go to bed on Saturday night. That includes bedside clocks, kitchen appliances, vehicle clocks, and all the rest. Your smartphone should take care of itself!

It's time to announce March's employee of the month: Kellie Williams! Kellie is a personal care aide and driver for Elderhaus at the Lake, our adult day center. She has been with the organization since August of 2024. Kellie's nominator shared that, "Kellie embodies our mission. She is kind, compassionate, and gives her all to work. She is the friendly face our participants see in the morning, and she keeps our participants happy all day! She is amazing and makes the EHAL team great!"
