Skincare steps you can handle…

Your morning and nighttime routine doesn’t have to consist of a million steps. Sometimes we just need to focus on cleansing and wearing some SPF…or we need to add in Vitamin C, AHA/BHA, and (most definitely) some moisturizer.

If you have to, keep it simple. If you want to, add more.

Which routine are you following right now?

Damage the sun causes goes by several names, including photoaging, photodamage, solar damage, or sun damage.

When photoaging occurs, we begin to see premature signs of aging, such as wrinkles, mottled pigmentation (hypo- or hyperpigmentation), rough skin, loss of the skin tone, dryness, laxity, and more.

My first recommendation is to ALWAYS wear your sunblock. If you don’t wear it all of the time, or you’re still seeing signs, you can help your skin “reverse” these sun damage effects with a topical approach by using:

- Retinol
- Vitamin C
- Niacinamide (B3)
- Alpha Hydroxy Acids (AHAs/Glycolic Acid)
- Peptides

“Reversal” is much harder than prevention. So wear your sunblock, moisturize, and be proactive in your skincare routine!

Hydrinity is now at United Medical & Aesthetics!

Here are some of our favorites:

Our first one is the Hyacyn Active Mist. This is a potent anti-microbial and anti-inflammatory spray that treats blemishes, renews and calms eczema, psoriasis, and rosacea. While being an extra-gentle mist, it also helps remove dirt, bacteria, oil and makeup without stripping skin. Overall it evens skin tone and reduces redness, reduces pore sizes, and cleans, relieves, and restores.

Both the Renewing HA Serum and Restorative HA Serum have a powerful healing formulation of injectable grade high molecular weight HA that instantly draws skin-plumping moisture into the epidermis to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles and help repair the skin barrier, injectable grade low molecular weight HA penetrates deep down into the dermal level delivering intense hydration and critical peptides and antioxidants to increase fibroblast activity and accelerate collagen and elastin production, Hydrinity’s
PPM° Technology that helps to safeguard skin from free radical damage while supporting the integrity and production of collagen I, elastin, and keratinocytes resulting in firmer, clearer, smoother, and completely comfortable skin. The Renewing serum contains Trifluoroacetyl Tripeptide-2 which helps prevent cell-aging and improve overall skin elasticity and firmness, as well as having 3rd Generation Squalane which provides anti-aging properties and hydration. The Restorative serum has Agastache Mexicana which helps to reduce inflammation and redness, as well as containing Bisabolol that helps fade scars, controls blemishes, restores suppleness, strengthen skin, and reduce flakiness.

Message or call today to get your hands on this skincare gold!

My journey to become a Physician Assistant stemmed from wanting to be a nurse as a child. I was drawn to the extensive knowledge and autonomy PA’s possessed in a field of medicine.

When I received my Bachelors Degree at a private liberal arts school, I scored a full ride scholarship for a Masters in Special Education. I worked as a house manager for three adults with intellectual developmental disabilities. A turn of fate lead me to apply to PA school where I was 1 of 30 students selected on my first try!

I have been a PA for 33 years. My first job was in the Emergency Room at what is now known as Carolina East Medical Center. Five years later, I transitioned to Internal Medicine landing my first job in cardiology.

In 2000, my career took an unexpected turn and I made a faithful decision to start my own practice in aesthetics based off my lover for dermatology.

My 30 years of experience as a PA provided me with abundant medical knowledge, critical thinking, exceptional people skills, and security for autonomy. All of my expertise in emergency medicine, internal medicine, and cardiology have led me to a field I LOVE, aesthetic medicine!

I have so many people to thank that have helped me along this road including my Dad, God, my family, and my friends. If you’re already a patient I am so grateful for you, and if not I am so glad you are here! I can’t wait for the memories we will make in 2024!!

Keep your name off Santa's naughty list this Christmas by removing your makeup before bed. Not removing makeup at the end of the day can lead to skin irritation, eye infections, clogged pores, and dry skin.

It’s all just innocent fun until Santa checks his naughty list. Let’s hope he forgets to check it twice this year. Happy holidays from all of us at United Medical and Aesthetics

Not all sunblocks are the same, and neither are different types of rays. Thats why it’s important to choose the right sunblock with the most protection…and to actually wear it!

Key factors to look for are:
-SPF higher than 35 to give you the UVB protection
-Broad spectrum which will provide the UVA protection
-Opt for tinted for extra coverage…especially if you have melasma

When applying:
-Use a two-fingers’ length worth of sunblock
-Reapply every two hours

Medical Grade sunblock/tinted moisturizer is always the best route. But if you’re shopping around make sure to check all of the boxes above.

If you stray away from ascorbic acid, you’re not going to get all of the benefits of pigmentation correction, antioxidants, UV protection, and collagen production.

Using any of the other derivatives in the graph can only do SOME of those things, but NOT ALL of them. This is why some are less expensive than others, and why some are less effective than others. It proves why spending a little more money to get all of the benefits are probably worth it. Instead of getting multiple products, you can get one that covers it all!

Want for information? Watch my Vitamin C video for more on ascorbic acid and derivatives.

Let’s talk about my three non-negotiables for skincare…

First is Vitamin C. I prefer ascorbic acid first because of the major studies behind those, rather than a derivative.

Then there’s Sunblock. You HAVE to have a SPF greater than 35 broad spectrum, and tinted, to protect from UVA, UVB, and HEV lights.

Lastly is Tretinoin. That’s where the studies are. Plain and simple. I know there are alternatives to Tretinoin but there’s an FDA approved indication for Photoaging with it and no other product.

We like to stick with the facts behind what we recommend. With these products, the studies and results are too good to question.
