This month is cervical cancer awareness month.

Cervical cancer develops when abnormal cells grow in the cervix. If left untreated, it can spread, but the good news is that it is largely preventable through regular screening and HPV vaccinations.

Welcome to 2026 !

Grateful for life, community, and new beginnings. May this year bring good health, peace, and joy to all. Happy New Year from Sunu Reew Medical Mission .

In 2025, Sunu Reew Medical Mission (SRMM) stood firmly at the intersection of compassion, capacity-building, and community-driven impact. The year was defined not by a single milestone, but by a powerful accumulation of efforts that strengthened healthcare delivery, elevated awareness, and deepened SRMM’s commitment to underserved communities particularly in The Gambia.

Throughout the year, SRMM expanded its reach by advancing mission-centered healthcare initiatives focused on access, dignity, and sustainability. The organization reinforced its core belief that meaningful medical care goes beyond treatment, it requires education, continuity, and respect for the communities served. By prioritizing culturally responsive engagement, SRMM helped bridge gaps between providers and populations often left behind.

Importantly, 2025 marked a year of vision-setting for the future. SRMM moved beyond service delivery alone and toward systems-level thinking supporting initiatives that integrate healthcare, social impact, and economic empowerment. This forward-looking approach affirmed SRMM’s role not only as a medical mission, but as a catalyst for long-term change.
We are grateful to our corporate sponsor Zakat Foundation of America.

Above all, 2025 was a year that reflected SRMM’s guiding principle healthcare rooted in humanity. Every effort, whether behind the scenes or on the ground, was driven by the belief that everyone deserves access to quality care, delivered with compassion and purpose.

As SRMM looks ahead, the achievements of 2025 stand as a testament to what is possible when mission, integrity, and community come together.

Looking forward to 2026

“There was a clear gap between healthcare systems in the Western world and the realities on the ground in The Gambia. Sunu Reew was born to respond by supporting communities, strengthening capacity, and bridging critical gaps in care.”

Joining them were Dr. Charles Roberts, Senior Consultant in General Surgery and Chief Medical Director (Africa) for the Sunu Reew Medical Mission, and Mr. Fabel Jarju, Director of Community Liaison.

Key discussions highlighted opportunities for enhanced clinical exposure, student participation in mission activities, and the strengthening of community-based healthcare initiatives.

This engagement marks the beginning of a collaborative journey that aligns academic excellence with community centered medical impact.

The meeting was hosted at EFSTH TV Edward Francis Small Teaching Hospital, Banjul, on Wednesday, December 10th..

TODAY IS HUMAN RIGHTS DAY!

We celebrate the foundational principle of Article 25 of the UDHR: The Right to Health for every single person.

But for thousands in The Gambia, this fundamental right remains out of reach. They are trapped in a health crisis defined by:

The NCD Crisis: Nearly 47% of adults are struggling with undiagnosed Hypertension.
Infectious Threats: Malaria and pneumonia continue to ravage communities.
The Systemic Gap: A critical shortage of doctors and essential life-saving drugs.

The Sunu Reew Medical Mission is the crucial link, turning this universal human right into tangible treatment. We are on the ground, delivering screenings, medication, and training to those who need it most.

Don’t just advocate for human rights, invest in them! Your donation funds the antibiotics, the anti-malarials, and the blood pressure medication that ensure dignity and the right to life.
