Welch Scar Therapy

Welch Scar Therapy Scar Therapy | Myofascial Release | Breast Health

Pre and Post Operative Care for Breast, Chest and Oncology Surgeries. Certified Oncology Scar Specialist.

I have been a licensed massage therapist since 2004, specializing in Scar Tissue Therapy, Myofascial Release and Therapeutic Massage. Over the years, my focus has been working with clients who suffer from surgical, trauma or burn scar tissue pain and dysfunction, as well as clients who are in various stages of surgery and injury rehab or experiencing chronic pain. I obtained my certification in Sports Massage in 2008 and have worked with all levels of athletes focusing on event training, performance and injury prevention. Each client should be approached with a fresh set of eyes and ears. I understand that every person has unique challenges and preferences, and pride myself in being able to hone into the needs of each individual. I strongly believe in the body's ability to heal itself, and I look forward to helping you on that journey.

BREAST HEALTH

This educational session is intended to promote lifelong optimal breast health through self treatment and to familiarize yourself with your breast tissue so you will be much more aware of any changes. You will learn how to perform a thorough visual and manual breast exam, as well as breast lymphatic massage. A shorter follow-up visit may be scheduled to review the material and make sure that you are totally comfortable with the process.

Approximately 1 in 8 women and 1 in 800 men will be diagnosed with breast cancer. We can minimize that risk by making healthy lifestyle changes and promoting healthy breast tissue!

Scar formation occurs in the third phase of Wound Healing, known as the Proliferation Phase. This rebuilding process starts 4 days after the wound occurs and can last for up to 24 days. This phase starts with filling in the wound with cells that form new tissue known as granulation tissue, which pulls the outside edges of the wound together and is uneven in texture. Your body also forms new blood vessels that bring oxygen and nutrients to the wound, which causes redness in the scar. The last part of this phase involves layering the wound with epithelial cells, which are the skin cells that cover the surface of your body.

The next phase, the Remodeling Phase, starts around day 24 and can last up to 2 years. The goal of this phase is to strengthen and repair the wound. Your body removes cells that are no longer needed for healing, and the tissue becomes stronger. Your scar will likely fade in color and flatten out. Healed wounds are not as strong as healthy skin. They generally have about 70% of the function of normal tissue.

Manual therapy can begin when the wound is fully healed and shows no signs of infection, usually around 8 weeks. Some very light and gentle manual and mobilization techniques can be applied to your scar and surrounding area once the scab falls off, and it’s also very important to keep your scar well hydrated with a good quality moisturizer (no chemicals or fragrances) for optimal healing. Silicone patches are also recommended to prevent the scar from losing moisture.

And remember…it’s NEVER TOO LATE to treat scar tissue!
