For the life of me I cannot remember where I read it, but it was years ago and it’s stuck with me. I read that resolutions are to resolve a problem and often have a negative connotation — quit sugar, cut calories, lose weight, quit drinking. They went on to say if we add a small, attainable positive to our new year it sets a completely different tone.
For years I wrote every morning before the sun came up. I fell out of it when it wasn’t fulfilling anymore and felt like a chore. But the book I read recently had a writing component, and it felt good to write again.
For 2026 I wanted to add writing back into my mornings and I stumbled upon this gratitude journal. I chose it because:
1. You write the date at the top of each page. I’m all or nothing, so this took the pressure off of writing every single day.
2. Each day has new set of prompts. And they’re simple.
3. It really is just 5 minutes.
“Every now and then it’s good to stop climbing and appreciate the view from right where you are.”
Happy New Year!
