✨ Join Our Group Practice ✨Flat Fee Model! ✨

Are you a seasoned therapist or dietitian in search of the right private practice for you?

We’re expanding our group practice and inviting new members to join our team. Our flat fee model means you pay a simple monthly fee and keep the rest.

What we offer:

🛋️ Beautifully furnished offices

📣 Help getting your name out there

🛋️ Ongoing mentorship & support

What we are looking for :

⏳ Experience: Our model works best for folks who are fully licensed and have honed their clinical skills.

👂Eagerness: Even the most experienced clinicians can be overwhelmed by entrepreneurship. That’s where we can help!

📖 Trauma-informed: This doesn’t have to be a specialty or niche, but we want a team committed to creating a safe and stable environment for one another and our clients.

🍽️ HAES-aligned: We believe all bodies are beautiful and worthy of respect. We want clinicians who push back against diet-culture!

I think Briere is one of the most underrated trauma authors. It can be easy to get caught in the weeds or get discouraged during trauma work. A lot of training and education in the trauma world has started to focus on specific interventions or manualized treatment protocols. Those things are wonderful and have their place. But it is important to have a broader vision and understanding of trauma as a therapist. And that is something that takes time and experience to develop. It also means that developing healthy relationships with clients is arguably our most important job. Most anyone can learn a specific intervention, but it takes a healthy person who is doing their own healing to create a safe space and cultivate meaningful, restorative relationships.

“Don’t aim at success. The more you aim at it and make it a target, the more you are going to miss it. For success, like happiness, cannot be pursued; it must ensue, and it only does so as the unintended side effect of one’s personal dedication to a cause greater than oneself or as the by-product of one’s surrender to a person other than oneself. Happiness must happen, and the same holds for success: you have to let it happen by not caring about it. I want you to listen to what your conscience commands you to do and go on to carry it out to the best of your knowledge. Then you will live to see that in the long-run—in the long-run, I say!—success will follow you precisely because you had forgotten to think about it.” -Viktor Frankl, Man’s Search for Meaning

This can be so hard. Especially for therapists. Especially for women. Especially for people pleasers. If someone is hurting, struggling or asking for help, it is natural to want to jump in and save them. In the moment it can feel cruel to let someone fail, sit in discomfort or endure the natural consequences of their actions. But there are so many times when we think we are helping and we are actually perpetuating unhealthy cycles. This can be true in parenting, friendships, the therapy room, and in business relationships. When we feel the urge to help, we can ask ourselves a few questions to decide whether or not to intervene: Do I know the whole story? What is my intention/goal in helping? Is the other person asking for my help? What happens if I do nothing? Is there someone better equipped to help than me?

We all want to increase revenue, but as a therapist, it is important to remember your limitations. After all, you are your own product. Overbooking yourself in an effort to increase earnings is a fast path to burnout. Sometimes, reducing expenses is a better way to increase your profit. At Willow, one of our strategies is to strive to keep costs as low as possible. It not only improves the bottom line, it also removes a lot of unnecessary stress.

If you’re in private practice, are you leaning into your identity as a small business owner? Whether you run a huge group or are just starting out, you are responsible for the success of your practice. This includes strategic planning, marketing, accounting, networking, and philanthropy. It can feel overwhelming, especially since we get so little business training in grad school. The good news is you are probably already doing more than you think. There are lots of overlaps between good clinical practice and good business practice. Try starting small to help build your confidence. It can also help to find a mentor. What has helped you grow your business? smallbusiness

I love third wave CBT as much as anyone. But it’s not the best intervention for everyone. Mindfulness and acceptance based interventions can sometimes feel confusing or too abstract for many clients. Enter Dr. Beck. For some folks taking it back to the traditional, second wave CBT is the best fit. Just because I prefer more mindfulness based interventions, doesn’t mean I can’t meet my clients where they are and use interventions that are the best fit for them. Sometimes dusting off that list of cognitive distortions can be life changing for clients.

This is your reminder that private practice is a marathon, not a sprint. Burnout is real and so much easier to prevent than it is to cure. Listen to those gentle nudges that might be telling you that you’re working too much or that you’re in a scarcity mindset. A sustainable practice takes time to build, so don’t try to rush it or force it. Remember to move your body regularly. You are sitting still and absorbing your client’s trauma day in and day out. Find healthy ways to release it that feel good and that are fun for you.

In therapy, we talk a lot about taking healthy risks or calculated risks. And friendship is a calculated risk. We can never know where the path of friendship might lead. We also go through different seasons with friendship. I often find that for my clients who are looking for a meaningful romantic relationship, that friendship is a great place to start. In friendship we can practice the same important patterns that come up in romantic relationships. Also the best romantic relationships often blossom out of friendship. And with each new friendship (whether it ended poorly or lasted a lifetime) we learn something and can apply that to our future friendships.
