Our upstate CAPS (Connections for Adoption and Permanency Supports) group meets in person and virtually THIS FRIDAY at our Wilmington location from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.!

This is a great time to connect with other parents who understand your experiences, celebrate wins, or just to say hello and listen if sharing happens to be difficult right now. The simple act of sharing space with other parents who get it may be just what you need.

Call Amanda at 302-746-7343 to RSVP! Dinner and childcare (ages 2+) are included!

TONIGHT!

Summer is winding down, and a new school year is right around the corner! This time of year brings a mix of excitement and worry, especially for children who struggle with change, anxiety, or emotional regulation. Transitions like starting school or even moving from one activity to another can be especially tough for our kids, making life challenging for parents and families.

Join us as we discuss practical strategies to help make transitions smoother for both you and your child. We’ll talk about how we can support emotional regulation during transitions, we’ll share tips for handling homework battles with less stress, and we’ll offer ways to advocate for your child’s unique learning needs. Whether you're gearing up for kindergarten, navigating middle school challenges, or just trying to get your child to stop playing their favorite video game without a fight, this is a workshop you won’t want to miss.

August 19th from 6 p.m. -8:00 p.m. via Zoom.

We recently hosted our inaugural Emeritus Board Luncheon—a heartfelt gathering to recognize the visionary leaders whose dedication helped shape A Better Chance for Our Children into what it is today.

ABCFOC and it's Executive Director Meg Garey, were honored to celebrate Emeritus members: Mary Lou Edgar, Nicole M. Mozee, Michelle Skoranski, Esq., Drew Gonser, and Ed and Veronica Gordon. In addition to our Emeritus Board members in attendance we were also grateful to welcome current Board President Robin Duquella, current Board Members: Karin Weining, Grace Stockley, Michael Beyer, and Dan Edgar (also ABCFOC CFO), and one of our incredible parents Mandy Prowitz , who shared how ABC’s support has made a lasting difference in their family’s life.

The conversations around the table reflected decades of commitment, compassion, and belief in the power of family, especially for children who’ve experienced the toughest beginnings.

To our Emeritus board members: thank you for laying the foundation. Your leadership continues to ripple outward, ensuring every child can thrive and heal.

Here’s to legacy, impact, and the shared work that still lies ahead. 💛

Our downstate kids need a new basketball hoop! One of our families in Milford has partnered with a few local businesses to get the ball rolling on this project. (See what we did there? :)

We have several small businesses that are donating time and materials to build a modest court and install a new hoop INSIDE our fenced in yard. The (now broken) hoop was in the parking lot and we had to move cars so they could play. This will provide a safer, long-lasting area for their games.

But we still have money to raise! Would you consider a small donation to help us make this dream a reality?
