New Workshop!
Understanding the Arc of Escalation
April 21st @ 6:00 pm- 8:30 pm
via Zoom

Special Guest Presenter: Jaclyn Kodosky, LMSW

This workshop will help participants recognize that behavioral outbursts in young people often follow a predictable “arc of escalation.” By understanding this arc—ranging from initial triggers and progressing to a full-blown crisis—caregivers and professionals can learn to anticipate behaviors, intervene early, and respond effectively at each stage. Participants will gain insight into the key stages of escalation, learn the importance of early intervention, and explore strategies for managing behavior during and after a crisis. This training emphasizes practical de-escalation techniques, effective communication strategies, and how to maintain safety and control. By mastering these skills, participants can defuse potentially volatile situations, reduce harm, and create more positive outcomes in both personal and professional environments.

Note that this workshop will run until 8:30 p.m.

📩 RSVP today by emailing training@abcfoc.org.

Sometimes, love looks like birdhouses 🐦 🏠

At our Wilmington Rec-n-Respite, volunteers from the Knights of Columbus brought more than just supplies, they brought joy, creativity, and connection. Together, our kids got to build and decorate their own birdhouses, creating something special to take home.

We’re so grateful for a community that shows up in meaningful ways and helps make life a little brighter for the children we serve.

Watching kids grow up in our Rec-n-Respite program is one of the most special parts of what we do, but sometimes it also means saying goodbye.

We’re celebrating an incredible young lady who has been part of Rec-n-Respite since she was 6 years old. Now at 14 she’s officially graduating from the program. Over the years we’ve watched her laugh, create, build friendships, and grow into the amazing person she is today.

Once Rec-n-Respite family, always Rec-n-Respite family. 🩷

New Workshop!
Understanding and Supporting Transracial Adoptees & Fosterees
TONIGHT @ 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm
via Zoom

Facilitators: Meg Garey, LPCMH/Executive Director, Celeste Bishop, Permanency Specialist, and Special Guest Issac Etter, Transracial Adoptee and Social Entrepreneur

Adopted at the age of two, Isaac Etter brings both lived experience and professional expertise to his work as the founder of Identity and Parenting Different.
Issac sparks honest conversations about how to support adopted children as we grow up. He equips parents with the tools and understanding needed to build families where adoptees feel seen, heard, and valued.

Join in as Issac shares with us his own transracial adoption experience and his practical guide to helping children develop healthy racial identities. We'll laugh and learn from Isaac's story of growing up as a "black boy in a white family". He'll outline a practical guide of what to do and conversations to have in every age group.

“Look for the helpers. You will always find people who are helping.”
- Fred Rogers

This Do More 24, you were one of those helpers. Thanks to your belief in kids and families, we made a huge impact together, raising $10,000 for our post-permanency programs! These programs support critical needs, like ensuring that youth who are no longer eligible for foster care services still have someone to walk beside them.

From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for stepping up, spreading the word, and making a real difference. Because of you, more children will have the support they need to thrive.
