What may seem like a simple family photo is, for many of our downstate families, an extraordinary gift.

Because of the behavioral challenges and special needs our children navigate, many rooted in the trauma they’ve endured, something as “easy” as a family photo can feel overwhelming or out of reach.

Thanks to the kindness, patience, and care of local photographer Justin Schaber, our families were able to experience this moment in a way that felt safe and supportive. Each session was thoughtfully set up in our office, one family at a time, in a familiar, quiet space where everyone could truly be themselves. These photos capture more than smiles, they hold resilience, connection, and love.

Thank you, Justin, for donating your time and gift. We are so deeply grateful for this incredible gift to our families.

TOMORROW NIGHT!

Raising teens who have experienced trauma can be deeply rewarding and uniquely challenging. The complex journey of adolescence may be even more challenging for your teen as a result of the negative experiences they endured in early childhood. Regardless of how long they’ve been a part of your family, those early experiences may continue to shape how they see themselves, how they trust others and regulate their emotions, and behavior.

Join us as we explore typical adolescent behavior and discuss practical ways we, as caregivers, can support our teens while also taking care of ourselves.

We’re especially honored to be joined by a teenage adoptee who will briefly share their personal reflections on the relationships and interventions that made a meaningful impact in their life.

Whether you're raising a teen now or just beginning the adolescent journey with your child, you won't want to miss this workshop.

Our downstate CAPS (Connections for Adoption and Permanency Supports) group meets in person THIS Friday at our Milford location from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.!

This is a great time to connect with other parents who understand your experiences, celebrate wins, or just to say hello and listen if sharing happens to be difficult right now. The simple act of sharing space with other parents who get it may be just what you need.

Email: training@abcfoc.org to RSVP! Dinner and childcare (ages 2+) are included!
