Great reminder to be gentle and gracious with ourselves, especially when we're anxious!

When anxiety shows up, do you notice how quickly you start demanding perfection from yourself? 😣

“I should be calm.”
“I should know what to do.”
“I should have control.”

But what you really need isn’t more control, it’s more kindness. 🌿

Healing happens when you allow yourself space to ride the wave, give permission to not know, and practice softness instead of self-criticism. 💖

What’s one kind thing you can offer yourself the next time anxiety visits?

Struggling to cope with news?

It may feel like we are living in a nonstop cycle of bad news.

Some ways to protect your well-being when news feels overwhelming or negative:

- Set some limits: step back from constant feeds, take time away from news, avoid graphic content.
- Practices like meditation, mindfulness, and deep breathing can help calm stressful reactions to unsettling news.
- Give yourself time and space to recharge. Go outside, read for pleasure, spend time with loved ones, snuggle with a pet.
- Step away or set boundaries in conversations to limit discussing news or politics.
- Take action. Action absorbs anxiety, so getting involved in a meaningful way can help.
- If news causes you to feel depressed, anxious or stressed out on an ongoing basis, talking with a professional might be a good step.

News can take a toll on our physical and mental health. Be proactive and take steps to care for yourself.

If you or someone you know would like help with this, we’re here. Reach out today via our website contact form https://lnkd.in/eVJcdau4 or at 302.477.0708.

The National Partnership for Women & Families has released a report: “State Momnibus Scan”

This comprehensive scan examines how states are addressing maternal health care inequity through policy, and where more advocacy is needed to close persistent gaps.

The findings spotlight both progress and the urgent need for continued investment in the advancement of maternal health equity and state-level policy solutions that ensure every birthing person and their families thrives.

We’re excited to offer Gender-Affirming Care (GAC) evaluations at Alliance Counseling, provided by Amanda Anderson, Psy.D. These evaluations, sometimes referred to as “letters of support,” are an important step for individuals seeking gender-affirming medical care, including hormone therapy and gender-affirming surgery. Evaluations can be completed in-person at our Delaware office or virtually for individuals in Delaware and Pennsylvania. Our approach follows WPATH SOC8 and APA guidelines, providing care that is affirming and individualized.

If you or someone you love has OCD, it may be important for them to see a specialist. OCD can be resistant to traditional talk therapy because some strategies used can result in the therapist co-compulsing, which makes OCD louder. An OCD specialist is trained to understand the unique ways OCD presents and can give you tools to help you sit with and tolerate uncertainty without compulsion.

Obsessions and compulsions are hallmarks of OCD (Obsessive Compulsive Disorder), but what is the difference? Obsessions are intrusive thoughts, images, or urges while compulsions are behaviors or mental rituals.

Obsessions cause distress and compulsions are done to try to alleviate that distress. Sometimes we can observe compulsions (i.e. hand washing) but other times the compulsion might be unobservable (i.e. repeating a phrase in your head).

It’s important to remember that OCD is “egodystonic”, this means that the obsessions are not in line with the individual’s values or desires. And having a thought, image, or urge doesn’t make it true! Thoughts are thoughts, not facts!
