A groundbreaking study has revealed that two years of consistent exercise can reverse up to 20 years of heart aging. According to Good News Network, researchers found that middle-aged adults who followed a structured workout routine for 24 months showed dramatic improvements in heart elasticity and function. The study was published in the journal Circulation and funded by the National Institutes of Health, making it one of the longest and most detailed trials on exercise and cardiovascular health.
Participants in the study were previously sedentary and in their 50s. They committed to four to five sessions of aerobic and strength training each week. According to EBNW net, the program included walking, swimming, cycling, and interval training, all designed to be manageable and sustainable. After two years, their hearts responded to physical stress more efficiently, resembling the cardiovascular health of someone 20 years younger.
