It’s counterintuitive, but if you have a lot of milk, you may find this manual pump is faster and more effective than your electric, even one side at a time! Look at how long these sprays last, and how much milk gets moved with each pump. Pretty fascinating, right?

Today’s clouds could not cover the sunshine in this room. My heart is full of gratitude for these women who brought their loving presence to celebrate The Golden Hour’s first anniversary today—at The Golden Hour 💛
Last April, after I went out on my own and fell flat on my face, I put a post it on my desk that said, “This time next year, you’ll be happy you did this.” I clung to that.
One of the best things about having my butt handed to me was being pushed into my community, to reach out to other providers and figure out how they were making it work. What you see here is what came of that.
These are all women who lift each other up and cheer each other on. Who value being part of something greater, who are excited to see options for excellent perinatal care growing. To be a part of this circle of support makes me the richest lactation consultant there is. This is what success looks like.

I spent a splendid day spreading the gospel of early access to lactation care at the ’s Women in Business Expo. I heard lots of breastfeeding stories (many successful!) and networked with smart, savvy, driven women—one of my favorite things❣️

I’m a big fan of this side lying position for bottle feeding. Here’s why:
-It supports the baby’s body, securely grounding them.
-The feeder can easily see the posture of the baby’s mouth (gape, lip fl**ge)
-The feeder can easily adjust the tip of the baby’s head, maintaining an open throat
-Sucks and swallows, rhythmicity, leaking, flow rate are simple to monitor
-Flow rate can be adjusted by tipping the bottle toward or away from the floor
I also like holding babies seated on my lap, with a hand behind their neck, but I find this is difficult for many parents to master and they resort to a cradle hold for bottle feeding.
This is is my least favorite, because the baby nearly always slides into a curled position with the head tucked tucked which closes the throat and airway and complicates suck-swallow-breathe. Also, the feeder can’t observe any of the items noted above.
How do you like this bottle feeding position? Did I miss any benefits?

This beautiful breastfeeder brought a lovely gift this morning, which I will hold close to my heart. So much of my experience in this realm took shape in the Chihuahuan desert of El Paso … this will be a very special addition to my art collection. 💛🧡🩷
And as we discovered, her kindness arrived on the anniversary of my first client at the Golden Hour. I held my very first visit in the office exactly one year ago today.
These coincidences, serendipity, auspices … these are magic moments I embrace and heap full of meaning. Because, after all, life is what you make of it.
Thank you for ringing in my one year birthday with me, Mallory. I almost missed it. 🥂💖

SEEN: At a family-owned pharmacy. While clearly this pump is absurd, literally a historic relic that I have displayed on my wall for fun, I love that this mom-and-pop shop has it available on their shelf. I really can’t imagine the last time they sold one but hey, if you were really in a pinch … 😂😂😂

Would you look at this group of perinatal professionals we have?! I always leave this event lighter than when I arrived. These women have been do instrumental to my own growth and confidence in this space, and I love the sharing and support that happens when we come together. Every time there are a few new faces!
Next month it will be at my place, to celebrate The Golden Hour’s first anniversary! I can’t wait to welcome these wonder women into the space I share with you. 💛🧡🩷

It’s a sweet, sweet sun-shiny day! ☀️🌈☃️ I am THRILLED to announce that The Golden Hour is now able to accept all major commercial insurances!!!
That means you can see this consultant as many times as you need to feel safe and secure. Get on the schedule now, before baby comes, to be as prepared as possible and guarantee you will be seen in the first week after baby’s arrival. I’m here for back to work, introducing solids, and weaning also, whenever you’re ready.
The care you need, when you need it, as often as you need it. It’s a brand new day!!!

Yes—this includes Highmark! (No, they didn’t add lactation consultants to their network and yes, we will keep fighting for that. But in the meantime, we found a way 👊🏽💥)
