Cape Fear HealthNet also connects uninsured to primary care, as well as specialty care for the low income uninsured. If you are unable to afford your premiums and your income is below 300% of the Federal Poverty Level, you may qualify and can be connected to a free or low-cost primary care partner in our network. www.capefearhealthnet.org.

On September 23rd, our Executive Director attended the final AccessHealth Bi State Annual meeting at The Duke Endowment where CFHN and the 17 other North Carolina AccessHealth Networks were recognized for their outstanding service and dedication to advancing healthcare access and reducing health disparities for the uninsured in North Carolina. The Duke Endowment has supported the work of the 18 AccessHealth Networks since 2008. Effective 12/31/25, that support will end as The Duke Endowment shifts its focus to a new initiative. Though disappointed in their decision, we are eternally grateful for their support and guidance over the years. This recognition is shared with the CFHN staff and our collaborative grant partners Cape Fear Clinic, New Hope Clinic, Coastal Horizons and the Good Shepherd Center. We are also grateful to Novant Health who was the lead applicant. We were also gifted a beautiful book called "Reflections" by artist William Mangum and Ralph Marston. As we look forward to the challenges and opportunities of the future, we are reminded by Mr. Mangum that "The greatest gift about making a difference is the difference it makes in you".

Thank you to Rachel Keith, with WHQR, who spent time with our Executive Director, Leslie Smiley and our Medical Director, Dr. Andre Leonard to learn about our program and the new challenges we are facing around support for our mission.

For 17 years, Cape Fear Health Net, a local non-profit, has served lower-income adults who can’t afford medical insurance. The group has connected hundreds of people to pro bono medical care, but those who lead the organization are worried about its financial future.

Grant in Action! ⭐🚐

New Hope Clinic is a volunteer-driven nonprofit organization that offers medical, dental and pharmacy services to low-income uninsured adults in Brunswick County. With funding from the Landfall Foundation, the clinic was able to expand its services through the purchase of a minivan for health screenings. Our President, Denise Baer, attended the ribbon cutting in Boiling Springs to mark this important program, which will enable the clinic to give better healthcare access to residents in high poverty neighborhoods.
