UNCW's School of Nursing provides numerous, exciting opportunities to enter the dynamic profession of nursing or to begin a career in clinical research. The School of Nursing has been in existence since the early 1960s and offers both baccalaureate and master's degrees in nursing and clinical research. In July 2010, the School of Nursing moved into the newly constructed McNeill Hall. Caroline Jenkins ’19, ’26DNP began her healthcare career working as a certified nursing assistant at her local hospital in her hometown of Nashville, North Carolina. It was there that she first discovered the power of caring for others. Those early experiences laid the foundation for a career that would span high-acuity intensive care units, research and a commitment to improving healthcare outcomes.

Jenkins is a Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) student at UNCW, working in the Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit (CVICU) at Novant Health New Hanover Regional Medical Center. From a young age, Arabella Ong ’26 was inspired by the impact healthcare providers had on others, motivating her to pursue nursing at UNCW. “Their ability to care, advocate and uplift others inspired me to do the same,” said Ong. “What drew me to nursing is its blend of science, empathy and lifelong learning.” UNCW, she is earning a Bachelor of Science in Nursing and a minor in psychology and hopes to become a family nurse practitioner, possibly specializing in neurology or pediatrics.
