🎓 GAA Graduate Spotlight: Joshua Bates
Joshua Bates graduated from Great Accomplishments Academy in 2023, and his journey is one we are incredibly proud to share.
Joshua joined GAA in the 9th grade when his mother was searching for a smaller, more supportive classroom environment where he could truly thrive……and he did just that. From the very beginning, Josh proved to be a hardworking student who was always eager to grow and improve himself.
After graduation, Joshua took a year to reset and relocate with his family to Virginia. He is now attending Richard Bland College of William & Mary, where he lives on campus and continues to excel academically.
Joshua has maintained a 3.0 GPA and is currently pursuing an undergraduate degree in Psychology.
We are proud of you, Joshua! Your dedication and perseverance continue to inspire us all. đź’™

AUTISM AWARENESS MONTHđź’«

Thorne Strickland entered Great Accomplishments Academy in the 5th grade unable to read. His parents were told by a professional that he was “unteachable.” He struggled in a traditional school setting and arrived at GAA frustrated, defeated, and unsure of himself.
But we saw something different.

Over the next seven years, Thorne worked relentlessly alongside dedicated teachers and staff who believed in him even when he didn’t believe in himself. Step by step, he developed the skills, confidence, and resilience needed to succeed.
Not only did Thorne learn to read… he EXCELLED.
He graduated as the Valedictorian of GAA’s first graduating class 🎓

After taking a year to refocus, he enrolled at Wilson Community College, where he has maintained an outstanding 3.80 GPA. He has been accepted into Barton College starting in the fall and has received several scholarship offers.

And the story doesn’t stop there…
Upon graduating from Barton College, Thorne’s dream is to return to Great Accomplishments Academy to teach art and pour back into the very place that helped shape his future 🎨
This is what happens when potential is nurtured, not dismissed.
This is what happens when someone is given a chance.
We are beyond proud of you, Thorne. Your journey is proof that labels do not define destiny. đź’™

Ryan, one of our awesome 2nd graders, had a blast working on his Solar System science project. His favorite part was getting creative with the coloring. He also couldn’t wait to tell us what he learned — especially that the Sun is actually an old star!

✨ Student Spotlight: Miles (3rd Grade) ✨

We wanted to take a moment to spotlight Miles for his bravery and hard work! Yesterday was his first day working with our middle school math teacher, Mr. Clark, and he jumped right in. He learned how to round decimals and independently completed his worksheet today with a perfect score — 100! 🎉

We’ve had the honor of teaching Miles since his kindergarten year, and it has truly been a joy to watch him grow. Strengthening his love for learning and partnering with his family who consistently advocates for him has made his academic journey special.

At GAA, we practice differentiated instruction. Every student learns at their own pace, some move quickly, and some need a little extra time, and that’s okay. What matters most is that we meet each student exactly where they are, give the needed support, and help them move forward with confidence.

We are so proud of you, Miles! 💛💚

Thank you to the Occupational Therapists at Venture Rehab Group for being one of the many companies that come to GAA and service our students.

Early intervention is key. When our students receive support from caring professionals, they grow with more confidence, more independence, and more joy in their learning.

We’re grateful for our staff and other professionals who pour into our kids and help us meet their needs with intention and compassion.

Let this be a reminder that when a community invests in its children, their possibilities stretch far beyond the classroom.

We are thankful for the families, memories, creativity, and learning that take place at GAA.

This past month has been full of moments that reminded us why our school community is so special. Our students explored DĂa de los Mu***os by creating sugar skulls and learning about love, remembrance, and honoring ancestors. They also celebrated Native American Heritage Month by learning values such as caring for the land and respecting nature, which they put into action during a school-wide clean-up around our campus.

We even welcomed our local fire department, who taught the students important fire-safety skills and showed them how firefighters serve and protect our community.

As we move into Thanksgiving, we are grateful for the growth, curiosity, and joy we see in our students each day. This month has been filled with hands-on activities, cultural learning, service projects, creativity, and memories that will last far beyond November. We are thankful for the families who trust us, the students who show up ready to learn, and the community we continue to build together.

Today, we celebrated our students who earned A/B Honor Roll and R.A.P.T.O.R. Pride during our first official awards ceremony. At GAA, we maintain high expectations. Our students continue to work hard every day by completing assignments aligned to the standards, finishing their homework nightly, and taking regular assessments to demonstrate what they’ve learned. We are incredibly proud of their dedication and growth, and we look forward to seeing them continue to shine throughout the school year.
