It is your birthright to breathe 3-dimensionally.

Take a look at babies, your pet, or someone who practices regular breathwork. You will notice the gentle rise and fall of their belly.

You too were born doing this. But perhaps your body forgot. Accumulated stress, faulty movement patterns, injuries, and traumas all impact how and where we breathe into our bodies.

Breathwork seems to be a hot topic in the wellness world, but try to remember that 1) breathing is 99% autonomic, meaning you do not consciously control it
2) in the 1% of your day when you do consciously direct your attention to improving your breathing patterns, you already innately know how to do it.

You just need simple techniques to remember how.

This simple technique is called the 3-D Breath, and encourages breath in the dimensions of depth, width, and length using the tactile feedback of the hands.

This image shows the “width breath”. It’s one of my favorites as it has an additional benefit of reducing shoulder tension.

In that order!

💪My routine before any strength session is:

1. Myofascial work to hydrate my tissues with my MELT roller or Tuneup balls (5-10 minutes)
2. MELT Neurostrength to stabilize my hips, core and shoulders (10 minutes)
3. Strength (35 minutes)

❔Why?
Hydrating tissues, especially first thing in the morning or after sitting at your desk all day improves neural connections between your tissues, muscles, and brain (this will improve your lifting coordination and power)

Stability work reduces your risk of injury, so you can safely lift week after week. Play the long game. You can’t stay healthy if you are on the sidelines.

Taking time to do Steps 1 and 2 WILL make you stronger.

How to beat getting a case of the Mondays:

🫁Schedule 10 minutes of breathwork into your morning.

I usually have a long to-do list as I am sure you do as well.
First, I give myself about 60-90 minutes to accomplish the most important tasks.

Then I sit and do some guided breathwork. For me, if I don’t follow someone on a Monday morning, I am right back to my to-dos.

Meditation is too still a practice for me on this day of the week. So structured breathing brings me the calm, focus, and resulting productivity I seek to start the week off right.

It’s World Wellbeing Week. 🌎🌍🌏

I am going to be honest. Typically I feel energized to share tips to empower you to take good care of yourselves, but today I find myself in a melancholy and conflicted mood.

There are many people around the world in the epicenter of rising chaos, unrest, violence and inequality. This isn’t new, but it is amplified currently. This environment and stress makes taking care of oneself completely impossible.

What does a meditation matter when you don’t have clean water? It doesn’t. Basic needs must be met first.

✨I bring this to light as my morning meditation mantra was “all my needs are met”. Because they are. If you are reading this, yours probably are too.

I stand for affordable access to health and wellness in all its forms, for everyone, everywhere.

I share this so that those of us in a position to do so can perhaps take this week to give to someone so they may take care of themselves. How can you make just one person’s day better? Giving can also be wellness.

And…this does not mean we must feel guilty for taking care of ourselves. In fact, it’s imperative we continue to do so. I won’t use the airplane air mask analogy, but you get the point… Stay on your routine. Stay grounded. This week to me symbolizes prioritizing wellness, in whatever form(s) that takes for you, and making the commitment to yourself.

While bodyweight training is also beneficial to the brain, it does NOT count in the strength category. You need to be pushing, pulling and/or lifting weights.
