A regular breast self-exam is a simple but powerful tool that helps you become familiar with your body, making it easier to detect any unusual changes early, when breast cancer is most treatable.
1️⃣ Look in the mirror (arms at your sides, then raised):
Are your breasts their usual size, shape, and color?
Any dimpling, puckering, or changes in the ni**le?
Any redness, swelling, or visible distortion?
2️⃣ Feel while standing or in the shower:
Use the pads of your fingers in a circular motion, covering the entire breast and armpit area.
Move in small circles, feeling for lumps, thickening, or hardened knots.
3️⃣ Feel while lying down:
Lie on your back, place a pillow under your shoulder, and repeat the exam. Use your opposite hand for each breast.
4️⃣ Take note of any changes:
Lumps, ni**le discharge, persistent pain, or skin changes should be reported to your doctor, even if they seem small.
When?
Pick the same day each mont, ideally a few days after your period ends when breasts are least tender.
