Happy National Recovery Month!!

Throughout the month of September, RC3 will be highlighting local partners and community members as part of our campaign!

Today, we'd like to highlight our Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) RCORP Impact grant partners for being ! The WCSPC was awarded the Impact grant last year and together with our partners we have been able to make a huge difference in our communities! It was this grant that allowed us to purchase the first round of Naloxone Vending Machines that went into Wilson, Nash, Edgecombe, and Wayne counties. We have also distributed ONEboxes, Fentanyl & Xylazine testing strips, and many more SUD treatment & recovery resources! We want to give a huge shoutout to these partners:

At this year’s Overdose Awareness Day Campus Surge event, we had the honor of recognizing leaders and partners who are making a real difference in the fight against overdose.

We’re excited to kick off our recognition series with a spotlight on Jeff Hill, recipient of the Appalachian Advocate Award!

As the former Director of the Wilson County Prevention and Substance Use Coalition (NC), Jeff has shown unwavering dedication to overdose education, naloxone access, and harm reduction efforts - not only across North Carolina, but throughout Appalachia. Thanks to his leadership, hundreds of ONEboxes® and naloxone kits have been deployed in communities that need them most.

Thank you, Jeff, for your tireless work to save lives and reduce stigma.

Reducing the stigma of addiction starts with our words.

Use person-first language! 💙

This shift isn't just polite. It’s essential. It helps remove stigma and encourages people to seek care and feel seen. Research shows that language like this promotes compassion and opens the door to real treatment and recovery.

-Open Alcoholics Anonymous Meeting, Wednesdays at 7pm
-Coping & Recovery Learning Skills Group, Fridays at 9am
-Open Narcotics Anonymous Meeting, Saturdays at 10:30am

🛡️ What’s the safety gap that many workplaces overlook? Most have a first-aid kit. Some train for CPR. But how many are ready for an opioid emergency?

Overdose, primarily involving synthetic opioids like fentanyl, is the leading cause of death among Americans aged 18 to 44. Fentanyl can show up in restrooms, breakrooms—even on job sites.

💡 NARCAN® Nasal Spray is available over the counter, and it belongs in every workplace emergency kit.

This Labor Day, make sure is part of the plan—whether it’s your workplace kit or your own bag.
