Sadie Mae Artis, 78, of 5739 Willow Green Rd, Farmville, NC, a faithful servant of the Lord, completed her earthly assignment on Friday, October 24, 2025, and has now gone home to receive her heavenly reward.
A public visitation will be held on October 31, 2025, at St. Delight Missionary Baptist Church, located at 341 Speight Bridge Road, Walstonburg, NC, from 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM. The family will be present during this time to receive friends and loved ones.
A Celebration of Life service for Mrs. Artis will be held on November 1, 2025, at 1:00 PM at Moyes Chapel UAFWB Church, located at 7355 E. Marlboro Road, Farmville, NC 27828.
Sadie Mae Artis, affectionately known as “Judy” by family and friends, was born on April 28th, 1947, to the late Relister Barnes and Fannie Bynum-Barnes in Greene County, North Carolina. She peacefully departed this life on October 24th. 2025.
Judy graduated from Walstonburg High School and went on to build a long and dedicated career. She devoted many years of service to Granite Glove, Snow Hill Memory Care, and later Domestic Fabrics in Kinston, North Carolina, where she worked as a skilled sewing operator.
Judy was a faithful member of St. Delight Missionary Baptist Church Joining under Rev. W.C. Cotton where she served on the usher board and the Bear Creek Association usher board until her health began to decline.
She will always be remembered for her kind and gentle spirit, as well as her famous after-church Sunday meals that brought everyone together.
Throughout her life, Judy served as a mother to the motherless, always making sure no one went without a meal or a place to feel loved. Her home was the heart of family gatherings and holidays, filled with laughter, good food, and happy children playing in the big yard. More than anything, Judy cherished her family, especially her beloved grandchildren, who brought her endless joy.
Judy was preceded in death by her parents, Relister Barnes and Fannie Mae Bynum-Barnes, as well as her son, Edgar “Poochie” Artis; Godson Caleb Barnes and one sister Betty Tyson and two brothers Relister Barnes Jr. and Harry Lee Barnes.
She leaves to cherish her loving memory her devoted husband, William Artis, of the home; three daughters, Evelyn Artis of Walstonburg, N.C., Kisha Foskey of Winterville, N.C., and Melissa Artis of Greenville, N.C.; and three sons, Andrew Artis of the home, Angelo Artis of Greenville, N.C., and Adrin Artis (Jessica), also of Greenville, N.C. She is also survived by three sisters, Caroline Speight of Snow Hill, Evonne Barnes (Johnnie) of Farmville, and Fannie "Kemp" Barnes of Washington, D.C.; Ten grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; and a special niece Takeara Mitchell and numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Stevens Funeral Home, 1820 Martin Luther King Jr. Pkwy., Wilson, NC.
