Pain during s*x can mean endometriosis.
Pain is usually deep, and can become more intense in certain positions, depending where the abnormal growth is happening inside your pelvic region. Endometriosis can be accompanied by frequent urination, diarrhea or constipation, an upset stomach and even upper body pain.

Painful s*x? It could be a s*xually transmitted disease. Chlamydia can cause irritation in the va**na, making s*x uncomfortable. Blisters and sores from ge***al herpes can cause pain when the va**na is penetrated. What is the l***a? Well, there are actually two sets. These are the skin folds around the va**na. L***a majora are the larger outer folds, with hair on the outside. L***a minora are the smaller, hairless inner folds. The l***a change color as you age, and can be anywhere from pink to brownish black. They protect both your urethra and va**na from irritation and infection and help with lubrication.

If Dr. Garritano finds your estrogen levels are dropping, you may discuss supplements to protect your bone density. Low estrogen levels are a factor in the development of osteoporosis and a higher risk of breaking bones.

Did you know your estrogen levels can increase your risk for a urinary tract infection? When estrogen levels are low, the va**nal tissues can thin, which makes it more likely you’ll develop UTIs. If you find yourself with burning and painful urination frequently, ask Dr. Garritano to take a look at your hormone levels.

If you've had cancer and are struggling with intimacy, talk to Dr. Garritano.

“Survivors of gynecologic cancers may have an elevated risk of s*xual dysfunction during the first 1 to 5 years after their cancer diagnosis, compared with cancer-free members of the general population,” according to findings of “a population-based cohort study” published in Supportive Care in Cancer. Furthermore, “in analyses based on cancer type, compared with cancer-free women, risk of overall s*xual dysfunction was higher in survivors of ovarian cancer...survivors of cervical cancer...and survivors of endometrial cancer.”

A study “shows that many women diagnosed with and dying from cervical cancer are older than 65 – a group for whom routine screening is usually not recommended.” Investigators “found that among over 12,000 California women diagnosed with cervical cancer between 2009 and 2018, 17% were 65 or older. And most of them – 71% – had advanced cancer,” which “compared with 48% of younger women who were diagnosed with the disease.”

People who’ve given birth va**nally, especially to babies over 8-1/2 lbs, are at risk for pelvic organ prolapse, but so are people who’ve had C-sections or have never had children. Constipation, straining to pass a bowel movement, can also raise the risk of prolapse.
