π¦ Cold & Flu Season Update π¦
Weβre seeing high numbers of Influenza A and COVID circulating both regionally and across the country.
β
Be prepared:
Consider grabbing a couple rapid flu and COVID tests from your local pharmacy to have on hand.
I also recommend keeping a pulse oximeter to monitor your oxygen levels at home
π€ Common symptoms include:
β’ Rapid onset fever
β’ Body aches
β’ Chills
β’ Cough
β’ Sore throat
β’ Runny/stuffy nose
β’ Fatigue (especially in kids!)
π Treatment is usually supportive:
β’ Tylenol or Motrin for fever/body aches
β’ Over-the-counter cough/cold medications as needed
β’ Stay home if you are sick to protect others
π§ Support your immune system:
β’ Push fluids
β’ Increase Vitamin C, Zinc, and Vitamin D (check with your provider to ensure these are ok for you to take)
β’ Wash hands frequently
β’ Cover coughs and sneezes
π¨ Seek medical care if you have:
β’ Shortness of breath
β’ Persistent or high fevers
β’ Worsening or concerning symptoms
π§ͺ Antiviral medications:
Tamiflu or Xofluza may be helpful for some patients with influenza if started within the first 48 hours of illness. If you test positive, ask your provider if these medications are appropriate for you.
β¨ Hope everyone stays healthy and well! β¨
