Our January "Culture Change Champion" is Peggy Stickley!

A resident and his wife decided to attend a concert, their first outing since the wife had experienced a fall. The PT Department had lent her a wheelchair so they could attend the concert. Tickets were in hand as the couple drove away, accidentally leaving the wheelchair behind. Realizing the wheelchair had been forgotten once they arrived, the question was what could be done.

Peggy was dropping off residents for the same concert on the SVWC bus and was able to assist by locating a walker that was not in use for that resident. Peggy even retrieved the wheelchair left on the resident's lawn and brought it back to the concert hall when she picked up the other residents. Her caring and proactive effort to retrieve the wheelchair reflects her professionalism and genuine concern for residents' well-being.

Staff members like Peggy, who go above and beyond, are the true stars of SVWC and deserve our heartfelt appreciation. 💕👍☺️

We have many talented residents involved in committees and groups. But this resident's consistent presence at events highlights the significance of Bill Young's role as our campus photographer.

His images for the Westbury World Newsletter, social media, and community projects truly showcase his dedication. We rarely see Bill on the other side of the camera, so we wanted to share a couple of shots of him. Let's take this opportunity to recognize Bill Young's contributions and let him know how much he is appreciated and valued. 👍📸☺️

Music nights, book clubs, creative arts—our community life calendar is full of ways to connect and engage. Residents often say there’s more to do than there are hours in the day, and that’s exactly how we like it.

The Newtown String Band returns on Friday, January 16 to play in the first Bistro Concert of 2026. Their music has been heard on front porches and church halls in the Valley for several hundred years. Catchy tunes laced with rough-hewn humor have lifted community spirits since before the Revolution.

Heather Butler plays the fiddle and sings. John Thomson has the unique ability to play melodic fiddle melodies on his five-string banjo. Paul Hammerton is an Englishman but a long-time Valley resident, whose guitar and voice added a richer sound to the band.

The performance begins at 7:30 pm. Admission is $10, cash only at the door. The concert is open to the public, and SVWC is located at 300 Westminster-Canterbury Dr. Call 540-665-0156 for information.

Bistro Concerts are sponsored by Atlantic Union Bank, and a portion of the proceeds benefits the SVWC Fellowship Fund.

When the January chill sets in, our favorite spot might just be the hot tub.

There’s nothing quite like soaking in the warmth while winter does its thing outside.
