Let’s be honest. Thanksgiving isn’t just one meal. It’s more like 3 days of meals. As fall is coming, I’m looking for ways to use the last bit of summer veggies. One of my favorite ways is this recipe from Wholesome Yum. Simple to make and 1 serving yields 21g of protein and only 3 net carbs.

You can even opt to use the air fryer instead of baking to give a little extra crisp. So good.

Are you a last minute lunch packer? We've been there. Especially when it comes to 'back to school' stress and packing the kids' lunches too. ⁣​

Here are some easy swap ideas to keep lunches fun, tasty, and good for not only you, but the kids as well. Added bonus - easier on the wallet!⁣​

Plus a few reasons why we even should make these swaps - ⁣​

1. Pre-packaged lunchables contain large amounts of sodium, saturated fats, nitrates, and other chemicals and preservatives. On top of that they lack needed nutrients like fiber and essential vitamins and minerals like vitamin A, vitamin C, iron, magnesium, and zinc to name a few. ⁣​
⁣​
2. Uncrustables and peanut butter. We think of peanut butter as a good protein source and it can be. However, most peanut butters on the store shelves are packed with added sugars and hydrogenated oils. Kind of outweighs that protein benefit. Instead, look at that ingredient list on the back of the jar and go for ones that only have peanuts and salt listed. Those sugars and oils are NOT needed. Kirkland's Organic brand is a great option!⁣​

3. Our bodies thrive off of whole foods. Unlike processed, pre-packaged foods that can weigh us down and make us feel sluggish, whole foods give us natural energy to make it through the day. Plus they reduce the risk of cardiovascular and other diseases and can minimize the need for certain medications. Let's energize our own bodies and fuel the kids with fresh food sources and plenty of variety (fruits, veggies, protein, whole grains)!

This is your reminder to drink your water! ​

Drinking water before meals and substituting water for sweet drinks (soda, juice, sports drinks, energy drinks, etc.) have been shown to cut down calorie intake, total fat, sugar, salt, and cholesterol intake. It improves overall weight control. ​

So next time you feel thirsty, or even hungry, grab a glass of good old fashioned water.​

But don’t feel like you have to be stuck with plain water all the time. Try this blackberry mojito water to mix it up some!

✨Blackberry Mojito Water✨​

Ingredients​
1 cup ice​
½ cup fresh blackberries​
3 slices of lime​
4 fresh mint leaves​
1¼ cups cold water ​

Instructions​
Combine blackberries, lime, and mint in a large cocktail shaker or cup. Mash well with the back of a wooden spoon or muddler. ​
Add water; cover and shake.​
Strain into ice-filled glass.

✨The 5 Whys✨
One of my favorite tools used to uncover the root of why change is wanted.

When I first started creating healthy changes in my own life, I asked myself why. Why am I wanting to feel healthier and stronger?

My answers hovered the surface of wanting more energy, wanting to like who I saw in the mirror, wanting to avoid triggering illnesses. But, dig deeper.

The 5 Whys technique repeatedly asks the question why. I wanted to feel healthier. Why? Because I wanted more energy to keep up with the world and my kids. Why? Because I wanted to be an active participant in their lives rather than the person behind the scenes. Why? Because I wanted to look back in 20+ years relishing in the memories and joy that was had rather than wishing I was even able to take part.

Dig deeper. Your reasons for wanting change will look different than mine, but knowing them is powerful. They are powerful reminders to keep you going even when you feel like quitting.

Honestly, who would have thought a turkey burger with guac on top would be any good, but this one... it's like a taco burger. And if you know us and tacos, well then you know why we love this!

The ground turkey is mixed with basically taco seasoning - chili powder, cumin, garlic powder, onion powder, and a little salt. Once it's cooked just top with fresh guacamole. No bun needed.

No, it's not your typical burger, but oh my heavens is it good!! So flavorful and so so easy to make. This is a DEFINITE bookmark. Save this recipe! I'm telling you, you won't regret it.
