Springboard Speech & Language Services is 7! I am so grateful to have the privilege of offering evaluation and treatment services in this wonderful community. It’s been 7 years of getting to know so many lovely families and working to help your children become confident communicators. This has never been just a job for me. One of the reasons I love being in private practice is that it allows me to really get to know a child’s family, help them understand how communication works, and teach them how to best support their child throughout this process. Doing so facilitates speech and language gains that will last, not just within our sessions, but across all of a child’s life adventures!

This little ray of pure sunshine attended her speech teletherapy session this week dressed as her favorite storybook character, The Princess In Black! One of my favorite perks of this service delivery model is that I can always pivot from our planned activities and incorporate articulation goals into something that a child is excited about and motivated to share. Her black satin gloves were a perfect visual/kinesthetic tool for addressing the challenging /rl/ sound combination by breaking up words like “girl” and “world” into “gir-uhl” and “wor-uhld”. We put a “high-five” hand out to mark each syllable, adding the “uh” sound to insert a pause between /r/ and /l/. Then we targeted vocalic /r/ sounds as we talked about the princess’s horse (-OR) and what she was wears (-AIR) and capped our session off with some Highlights Magazine hidden pictures as she told me she found each object “here” (-EAR) or what it was near (-EAR) as she clicked on it.

Kids’ Corner is a parent-sponsored nonprofit after-school childcare program in Wi******er, MA that is licensed by the Department of Early Education & Care (EEC).
