Apply sunscreen correctly can help reduce your risk of skin cancer and prevent photodamage ☀️Here are some tips to make sure you are applying correctly:⁣

Look for sunscreen that says: SPF 30 or higher, water resistant, and broad spectrum. ⁣

Apply the right amount! Most adults need 1 oz of sunscreen to cover their whole body. ⁣

Apply 15 minutes before going outdoors. Reapply every two hours after being in the sun, or after swimming or sweating. ⁣

Wear sunscreen whenever you are outside, even if it’s cloudy. ⁣

Check expiration dates! Guilty of throwing your sunscreens in a drawer or bag to use next year? Sunscreen can expire!

Are you getting acne breakouts and skin irritations from your face mask? Ramp up your skin care, here are some tips! After you take your mask off, wash your face with a cleanser. Pat your face dry then apply a toner to remove excess dirt, oil and makeup, and to control acne. If your skin is swollen from the pressure of the mask apply a cold compress on your clean skin after washing. Then apply a soothing and hydrating lotion.⁣⁣⁣

Wearing a mask can cause acne breakouts and irritation. Glycolic peels are great for preventing acne, like the Enzymatic Peel sold on our website. Peels can be added into your skin care routine and done once or twice a week as needed. Visit our website to purchase our dermatology approved cleansers, toners, and peels.⁣⁣⁣

A monthly chemical peel can help prevent acne and remove dead and damaged skin. Visit our website for more information on chemical peels and call our office to schedule an appointment.

Don’t let skincare take a back seat during a pandemic! Perform an at home skin check, checking your skin for warning signs can help save your life. Take photos on your phone of anything new, changing or unusual on your skin and monitor it over time. There are even apps that will send you a monthly reminder to check on the spot to see if it has evolved. If you see anything concerning, schedule a teledermatology appointment. Teledermatology allows patients better access to high-quality dermatologic care without traveling to the office. Share the photos with your dermatologist who can look them over virtually and provide advice over the phone. They will determine if you need to come into the office or not. If you’ve recently been treated for skin cancer, your dermatologist may be able to provide follow-up care over the phone or via video sessions. Call 781-729-4878 to schedule an appointment with our providers today!

You have the most powerful tool to detect skin cancer – your eyes. Catching skin cancer early can be the different between life and death. We recommend performing a self-skin exam every month and have a skin check with a board-certified dermatologist every year, unless otherwise specified. See below for tips on how to perform a skin check and what to look for. ⁣

During a self-exam there are three things to look for: new, changing, and unusual. Keep an eye out for any new moles or blemishes, spots that are changing in color, shape, size, texture, spots with unusual borders or areas of different colors. Also, make note of any itchy moles or spots that bleed or crust. Stand in front of a full-length mirror and have a hand-held mirror handy.⁣

Examine your body front and back in a full-length mirror. Use a hand mirror to examine your face – don’t forget your nose, lips, mouth and ears. Part your hair different ways to inspect your scalp, you can also use a blow-dryer to help get each section. Check your hands and feet - in between your fingers and toes, under your nails, your palms, the bottom of your feet. Look at your arms, elbows, underarms and armpits. Check your neck, chest, and torso. With your back to the full length mirror, use the hand mirror to check the back of your neck, shoulders, upper back and arms, scan your lower back, butt, and the back of your legs. Put each leg up on a stool or chair to check both sides of your legs and ankles. ⁣

Even ONE blistering sunburn can nearly DOUBLE a person’s chance of developing melanoma, the deadliest form of skin cancer, later in life. Here are some tips to prevent skin cancer:
The sun rays are strongest between 10am and 2pm. Sun rays can pe*****te clouds and glass and can reflect off of snow, water and sand. Wear sunscreen with SPF 15 or higher everyday, when outside wear SPF 30 or higher. Apply the sunscreen to your entire body 30 minutes before going outside and when outdoors reapply every 2 hours or after swimming. Wear a wide brimmed hat and uv-blocking sunglasses. ☀️🕶 👒

Frequent hand washing and hand sanitizer can leave your skin feeling extra dry. See below for some of our best practices when it comes to dry, itchy hands:

1. Wash your hands with warm water rather than hot.
2. Pat your hands dry after washing rather than harshly rubbing with a towel.
3. Avoid products that contain fragrance, they can be irritating to chapped skin.
4. Moisturize!!! After washing your hands apply a moisturizer. Keep travel sizes of cream in your car and purse for easy access.
