What patients don’t see…

Behind every successful surgery, there’s more than technique.

There’s planning.
There’s precision.
There are decisions made in seconds that are built on years of training.

Patients don’t see:
• The surgical mapping before the first incision
• The constant evaluation of anatomy and risk
• The micro-adjustments that protect critical structures
• The team coordination that keeps everything moving seamlessly

Minimally invasive and robotic surgery are not just about technology—
they’re about elevating every step of the surgical process.

Because what patients don’t see…
is often what makes the biggest difference in their outcomes.

Throwback Thursday

Long before robotic surgery transformed the OR…
there was a moment that changed everything.

In 1984, Kurt Semm performed the first trial of endoscopic hysterectomy—a groundbreaking step toward minimally invasive gynecologic surgery.

By separating the adnexa pelviscopically to simplify vaginal hysterectomy, he introduced a new way of thinking:
less invasive, more precise, and ultimately better for patients.

What was once considered radical…
is now the foundation of modern surgical care.

Innovation in surgery isn’t new.
But those who embrace it early are the ones who move medicine forward.

If your hospital is not investing in this… you’re already behind.

Healthcare is evolving—fast.

Hospitals that are leading today are doing three things consistently:

• Investing in robotic and minimally invasive surgery programs
• Prioritizing continuous surgical education and training
• Building Centers of Excellence that attract patients and referrals

This isn’t about trends.
It’s about outcomes, efficiency, and long-term growth.

Patients are more informed.
Referrals are more selective.
And expectations are higher than ever.

The question is no longer if you should evolve—
it’s how fast you’re willing to do it.

At AIMIS, we work with institutions ready to lead—not follow.

This week, we recognize Dr. Peter Aziz, a dedicated urogynecologist at Intermountain Health, committed to advancing high-quality, evidence-based care in a culturally competent environment.

Dr. Aziz brings a strong academic and clinical background, having trained at Ain Shams University School of Medicine, completed his OB/GYN residency at Mount Sinai Hospital, and pursued a fellowship in Urogynecology and Female Pelvic Surgery at Louisiana State University. He is board-certified by the American Board of Obstetricians and Gynecologists and holds a Master’s in Public Health from the University of New England.

With extensive experience serving underserved populations, Dr. Aziz is passionate about building a more equitable healthcare system. His expertise includes complex pelvic reconstruction, minimally invasive, and robotic surgery—treating conditions such as pelvic organ prolapse, urinary incontinence, fistulas, and obstetrical injuries.

Beyond the OR, Dr. Aziz contributes to the academic community by reviewing manuscripts for leading Obstetrics and Gynecology journals.

When he’s not caring for patients, you’ll likely find him playing guitar, listening to music, or exploring new destinations around the world.

At AIMIS, we are proud to highlight physicians who are shaping the future of women’s health through skill, compassion, and innovation.

Infertility affects millions of individuals and couples worldwide—yet for many, the journey remains silent.

This week is about more than awareness.
It’s about education, support, and advancing care.

From early diagnosis to minimally invasive surgical solutions, innovation in women’s health plays a critical role in helping patients preserve and restore fertility.

At AIMIS, we are committed to elevating surgical education and supporting physicians with the latest techniques—so more patients have access to options, answers, and hope.

Because behind every case…
there’s a story, a journey, and a future worth fighting for.

Doing nothing is also a decision. Steven McCarus

In women’s health, delaying innovation has consequences.

• Longer recoveries
• Higher complication rates
• Decreased patient satisfaction
• Lost referrals to more advanced centers

Minimally invasive and robotic surgery aren’t just “nice to have”—
they are becoming the expected standard of care.

The real cost isn’t the investment in new technology.
The real cost is staying the same.

Because while some institutions wait…
others are already leading.

At AIMIS, we support those ready to move forward.

Throwback Thursday

Before robotic surgery became the standard…
there were pioneers who saw its potential early on.

Dr. Steven McCarus was among the first to embrace and advance robotic-assisted surgery in women’s health—helping shape a future where precision, minimally invasive techniques, and better patient outcomes are no longer the exception, but the expectation.

His early adoption and commitment to innovation helped transform how complex gynecologic procedures are performed today.

Because progress doesn’t happen by chance.
It happens because someone is willing to lead.

What Does It Mean to Become a Center of Excellence?

It’s more than a designation.
It’s a commitment to elevate care, outcomes, and leadership in women’s health.

Becoming a Center of Excellence requires a comprehensive approach:

• Collaborating with leadership to align vision and ex*****on
• Strategic marketing to build awareness and trust
• Developing specialized programs, like fibroid care
• Increasing surgical volume through advanced capabilities
• Expanding education for continuous clinical excellence
• Strengthening your brand as a leader in your community

Centers of Excellence don’t just follow standards—
they set them.

At AIMIS, we support institutions and physicians ready to lead the future of minimally invasive surgery.

Simplifying the OR. Elevating the Standard.

The da Vinci Handheld Camera Intuitive is designed to integrate seamlessly into modern surgical workflows—bringing efficiency and flexibility to every case.

► Fits most common 5mm scopes
► Connects directly to the da Vinci Vision Tower
► Eliminates the need for an additional lap tower

Less equipment.
More efficiency.
Better focus where it matters most—on the patient.

At AIMIS, we continue to highlight innovations that support surgeons in delivering high-quality, minimally invasive care.

Advancing surgical innovation starts with meaningful conversations.

Christopher A. Guinn and Steven McCarus recently attended an evening conference hosted by Intuitive, where leading voices in the field came together to discuss the future of surgery.

The discussion focused on key trends in surgical education, evolving technologies, and the real-world journey many surgeons experience—from initial hesitation to fully embracing advanced platforms like the da Vinci 5.

These conversations matter.

They reflect not only how far surgical innovation has come, but also the importance of continuous learning, adaptation, and collaboration in improving patient outcomes.

At American Institute of Minimally Invasive Surgery, we remain committed to supporting surgeons through every stage of that journey—helping bridge the gap between technology and clinical excellence.
