Throughout the month of March, we're celebrating Women in the Trades Month, an opportunity to highlight the young women who are building skills, breaking barriers, and paving the way for even more women!

Questar III BOCES Fire Science students (L-R) Isabella Briggs (Taconic Hills Central School District/Hillsdale Fire Company # 1.), Rhianna Edelman (Taconic Hills CSD/Craryville Fire Department), and Cassandra Nostrand (Cairo-Durham Central School District/Cairo Fire Department) work with Clinical Instructor Liza Dwon (far right) to tie knots around a saw as they practice safe tool hoisting techniques. Mastering these skills instills confidence in students, ensuring they are ready when on an active scene.

We’re excited to announce a joint training opportunity with Albany Medical Center Injury Prevention and Outreach. Safe Pediatric Transport for EMS. Come see us Wednesday May 27th, 2026 from 6-8pm at the Columbia County Emergency Management Building. Register by email training@valatierescue.org. Class size is limited but this training is open to ALL emergency service providers. Light refreshments and snacks will be provided.

Thank you for your service K-9 Haas.

We mourn the loss of one of our beloved K-9 members “Haas”, who passed away yesterday evening due to medical reasons, with his partner, Sergeant Ryan Schrader, by his side. Haas was named in memory of our fallen Brother, Deputy Kevin Haverly, who we lost in 2017. Haas had a distinguished career at the GCSO. Being a dual purpose K-9, he was able to track and find people and items, locate illegal narcotics, and also protect his handler when necessary. Aside from his work duties, Haas had recently retired to spend his days just being a dog with his K-9 siblings and endlessly being loved on by Sgt. Schrader’s family. We here at the GCSO send our sincere condolences to Ryan and all those who knew and loved Haas. Rest now pup, we’ll take it from here 🖤💙🖤🐾
