🎶 A day in the life of a music therapist 🎶
One of the things I love most about music therapy is that no two sessions ever look the same. Music therapy is highly individualized, meaning it’s tailored to each client’s diagnosis, abilities, goals, personality, preferences, and even their unique music taste. Some sessions are full of movement and rhythm, others are quiet and reflective. Sometimes it’s about building communication, sometimes it’s about emotional expression, and sometimes it’s about simply finding joy through music.
Here are just a few ways sessions can look different:
🎤 Singing together to strengthen speech and communication skills
🥁 Drumming and rhythm games to support motor development and coordination
🎹 Playing instruments or improvising to encourage creativity and self-expression
🎧 Listening and discussing music that resonates with a client’s emotions or memories
💃 Using music for movement, dancing, or exercise to build strength and mobility
🧘 Relaxation exercises with music to decrease stress and regulate emotions
Every client brings their own story, goals, and spark into the room — and the beauty of music therapy is that the music always meets them right where they are.
