🧠 Concussions can happen in so many ways, and this past week I’ve had conversations about several different causes:

1️⃣ A softball player hit in the face during a game.
2️⃣ An elderly woman who fell down the stairs.
3️⃣ A driver involved in an auto accident.
4️⃣ Two siblings wrestling at home.

Concussions aren’t limited to sports – they can happen anywhere, to anyone, at any time. It’s a reminder that we need to stay vigilant about head injuries, whether on the field, at home, or in everyday life. Always prioritize safety and get checked out if you suspect a concussion.

Even better - get a baseline test done PRIOR to experiencing a concussion so your providers can better serve you!πŸ’š

🧠🏈 Kids often try to hide concussions, but why? Here are a few reasons:

Fear of missing out: They don’t want to sit out of games or practices and miss the action.

Pressure to perform: They might feel pressure to stay in the game and not let the team down.

Lack of awareness: They might not realize the seriousness of the injury or recognize the symptoms.

As parents and coaches, it's essential to create an environment where health comes first. Encourage open communication and remind them that their well-being is more important than any game. Let’s keep our kids safe and informed! πŸ’š

πŸ§ πŸ€• Parents, one key sign to watch for if you suspect your child has a concussion is balance problems or unsteady movements. If you notice your child stumbling, struggling to stay upright, or seeming off-balance, it could be a sign of a concussion.

Trust your instincts and seek medical attention if something doesn't seem right. Your child's safety is the top priority! πŸ’š

🏈🍁 Fall sports season is here, and it's time to hit the fields and courts with energy and enthusiasm! Whether you're gearing up for football, club soccer, club softball, or club baseball, it's crucial to prioritize your health and safety. 🧠

Did you know that football ranks as the #1 sport for concussions? Soccer follows at #4, and softball/baseball at #6. Concussions can have serious long-term effects if not properly managed. That's why getting a baseline screening done before the season starts is ESSENTIAL.

A baseline screening helps medical professionals accurately assess and manage any potential concussions that may occur during the season. It provides a critical point of comparison if an injury happens, ensuring you get the best care possible.

Let's play hard, stay safe, and make this fall sports season one to remember! πŸ…πŸ†

🧠 Concussion Care: Then vs. Now 🧠

Ever wonder how concussion care has evolved over the years? Let's dive into it! πŸŠβ€β™€οΈ

Then:
We used to believe that keeping concussion patients awake was crucial. The thought was that allowing them to sleep might lead to them slipping into a coma or worse, since monitoring their symptoms while they were awake seemed safer.🚫

Now:
Research has shown that rest is actually beneficial for concussion recovery. Allowing the brain to rest helps it heal. Sleep is a natural way for the body to repair itself, including the brain. Monitoring is still important, but rest is key to recovery.

Why the Change?
The initial approach was based on caution and a lack of detailed understanding about brain injuries. As medical research advanced, studies demonstrated that rest and sleep aid in brain recovery without increasing risks. Medical experts now recommend allowing concussion victims to sleep, as long as they are closely monitored for any changes in their condition.

Understanding and implementing these new guidelines ensures better outcomes for patients. Let's stay informed and keep evolving in our approach to healthcare! πŸ’‘βœ¨
