Women have a 50% higher chance of having their heart attack misdiagnosed. Women's symptoms are different from men's! Women may experience chest discomfort, pressure, tightness, or pain. However, they can also have shortness of breath, nausea, vomiting, fatigue, jaw pain, neck pain, back pain, or lightheadedness with or without chest discomfort.
I had a woman tell me today (NOT a patient HIPAA police) that has been having jaw pain with exertion and generalized fatigue for 2 weeks. She went to her doctor, and they told her it had to do with her vitamin D level, with no offer for a stress test or any other testing.
Please know the symptoms! Medical Misogyny and Bias are real and often not on purpose, just from culture and habit. Advocate for yourself!
