Earlier today, residents and staff at Stoughton House at Historic Homes of Runnemede (HHR) were promptly and safely evacuated after smoke was observed coming from the chimney, and the Fire Department responded immediately for assistance.

In consultation with the Fire Department, the boiler will remain off at Stoughton House until a part of the chimney is replaced within the next two days. Temporary emergency heat will be provided for our residents. All residents and employees are safe, and the building remains stable. We will continue to work with local and state resources to ensure the continued safety of those involved.

A message from Matthew R. Foster, MD, MMM, CEO and President of Mt. Ascutney Hospital and Health Center:

On behalf of Mt. Ascutney Hospital and Health Center (MAHHC) and Historic Homes of Runnemede (HHR), I would like to extend my gratitude for your support of community services.

In last week’s Town Meeting, many of you voted for the Town of Windsor to appropriate funds to a variety of organizations that directly support the health and wellbeing of our community members, including MAHHC and HHR. Your votes in support of programs that help residents afford health services, learn skills to manage disease, support family wellness, provide transportation and in support of HHR’s Meals on Wheels program will have real, tangible impacts for your neighbors. It means someone will be able to access care without the fear of its cost. It means someone will not go hungry simply because they cannot leave their home. It means together, we will grow stronger and continue to be neighbors helping neighbors. We can truly lift more together than we can alone.

I am proud of the work our nurses, physicians and all of our employees do, and your support reflects the Town’s spirit of looking out for one another and the shared strength we show when we act together.

Thank you for caring for one another, and thank you for taking the time to vote.
