I used to joke that a woman could go to her provider and complain of knee pain then walk out with a diagnosis of anxiety, but all joking aside there’s a lot of truth to this.

Women in today’s healthcare system feel unheard and brushed aside. They present to their provider with legitimate health concerns and are told they are just anxious; here’s an antidepressant, see you six weeks.

Women deserve better. Hormonal imbalances can lead to mood fluctuations and optimizing women’s hormones can lead to better mental health outcomes. It’s not an opinion, it’s actual SCIENCE. Science that most providers feel bias towards or against.

This may sound dramatic, but seriously TESTOSTERONE IS LIFE CHANGING! Both for men and women!

The news this week regarding the FDA removing black box warnings against women’s HRT is super exciting. It means the FDA has FINALLY looked back on old research and deemed that it was inaccurate in regard to hormones causing breast cancer and stroke.

HOWEVER, there is still a lot of work to be done. Women continue to be under researched and there are yet to be guidelines surrounding dosing of testosterone in women.

Another point to remember is that these black box warnings were only listed on COMMERCIAL hormones and not compounded. The benefits of compounded hormones far outweigh commercial products.

The take home here is that women NEED hormone replacement therapy. Hormones are essential in the prevention of bone density loss, Alzheimer’s, and heart disease.

If your provider continues to ignore your menopausal symptoms, LETS TALK! There’s absolutely no reason for women to go through menopause without support.
