‘Our Story’
My story is just that, just a story. One of many that have been told and logged here on Earth. However, I can say one unique thing about ‘my story’ is that I never in a million years thought I would be a Yogi, Meditation practitioner, or a Seeker on the spiritual path, and if you would have told me that when I was in high school back in the late nineties, I would have laughed in your face. Never would “I”, ‘Jensen’ level to be such a crunchy granola smoking, turbo hippy. Not in a million years. I was too busy skipping school, doing drugs, smashing guitars and burning them in my backyard, and going against the grain of basically all authority.
Although incredibly privileged in many ways, growing up I faced many, many challenges and hurdles as a child, and consequently I went through the wash and spin cycle of life, pushing and fighting upstream for many years as a teenager. The defining moment I really remember was just after college I became one hundred percent motivated to heal and address my inner wounds and issues. Something shifted in me because I started seeing the limits of which I could no longer face. I started reading furiously. Ever single source I studied and came across, every book, every video, was pointing me towards Meditation. On a hot summer day I stumbled into a Meditation center in my home town Petaluma, CA, and was warmly greeted by whom was to be my spiritual godmother, Maxine. She kindly listened to my woes, offered me tea, and sent me off with a Meditation handbook that was to be the beginning of my first steps on the path.
Fast forwarding into the future, my passion and relationship to Meditation has flourished into teaching, holding retreats and trainings, and above all, has committed me to life-long dedication to being a student. Maxine is also physically gone now, and now her, and many other teachers who have came and went who inspire me continually reside at my heart. I simply could not imagine my life without Meditation. The more I sit, the more I realize how much I truly do not know and cannot explain. To me, deep levels of Meditation is accessing the inexplicable moving reality hidden and buried under the rug of our society and the things we cling to and identify with: Our job. Our money. Pursuing endless material desire and fulfillment of the senses. Meditation is the vast world of stillness accessible beyond the noise and distortion in our mind. Meditation helps us to peel back all the layers of worries and fear that we’ve been force-fed by the modern world. As I’ve meditated and trained my mind, I’ve learned it truly is possible to access an entire field of peace and serenity when the mind is calm and clear. All I have to do is apply gentle effort. And so can everyone esle. I seek to help others do the same.
In current time, my passion is to spread the gift of Meditation, Yoga, and spiritual practice to as many people as I possibly can, and maybe then, I can create a ‘story’ truly worth living and telling. I don’t want any gold-stars in life. I don’t want validation, approval, or fame/praise either. I just want to help people, elevate them to their highest potential, and create positivity in the world. Going from ‘What can I get?” to “What can I Give?” was the moment my life changed. And that moment was because of Meditation. Please join me in becoming the conscious shift in humanity that this world so desperately needs and pick up a Meditation practice. Study the teachings. Apply yourself and your life will change. Maybe we’ll see that the same energy and fabric that churns the oceans, grows the grass, and makes the stars shine is in you, and in me, and we are equal. Interdependent. Let’s make our stories the best they can be.
