That’s your thoracic spine telling you it’s tired of being stuck in the same position all day (thanks, desk job).

Here’s the thing - your mid-back is designed to rotate and extend, but most of us keep it locked in forward flexion from hunching over computers, phones, and steering wheels.

Quick fixes aren’t really fixes. They’re just expensive delays.

Look, I get it. You want the pain gone NOW.

You’ve got something important coming up and you need to feel better fast. So you pop some ibuprofen, get a quick massage, maybe try that “miracle” stretch you saw on TikTok.

And hey, sometimes it works... for a few days.

But then you’re back to square one, doing the same thing over and over, wondering why nothing sticks.

Here’s the thing your body’s been trying to tell you: that pain isn’t the problem. It’s the fire alarm.

You can keep hitting the snooze button, or you can figure out why the alarm keeps going off.

When someone comes into our office saying “I just want you to crack my back and make it stop hurting,” I have to be honest with them. I could do that. You’d feel better for a bit. But you’d be back next week with the same issue.

Instead, let’s figure out the WHY behind what’s going on.

Because once you understand the why, you can actually fix the problem instead of just managing the symptoms.

No. It’s not.

Your body isn’t supposed to feel like you’re running on fumes 24/7. Sometimes the answer isn’t more coffee or better sleep hygiene (though those help).

Sometimes it’s about why your nervous system can’t properly regulate your energy in the first place. ⭐️

Two months of daily mid-back stretches and it still feels like concrete? Yeah, I get it.

Here’s the thing - your mid-back isn’t tight because it needs more stretching. It’s tight because it’s working overtime.

While you’re sitting at your desk, your head drifts forward and your hips get stuck. Guess who has to pick up the slack? Your poor mid-back.

So when you stretch it, you’re basically telling an overworked employee to “just chill out” while everyone else continues slacking off.

What actually works: Fix your head position. Get your hips moving. Then your mid-back can finally stop being the hero.

Your knee pain probably isn’t about your knees. 🤔

Your knee is basically the middle child of your leg - it gets blamed for everything but rarely causes the actual drama.

Think about it: Your knee is a hinge joint designed to bend and straighten. When it starts hurting, it’s usually because your hip or ankle isn’t doing its job properly.

🔍 What’s actually happening:
• Your hip isn’t stabilizing, so your knee compensates
• Your ankle is stiff, forcing your knee to twist
• Your glutes “forgot” how to work, leaving your knee to pick up the slack

It’s like blaming your car’s transmission when the real problem is your engine. You can keep fixing the transmission, but until you address the engine, you’ll keep having the same problem.

This is why rest and ice give temporary relief but the pain keeps coming back. You’re treating the symptom, not the cause.

💡 The good news? Once you understand what’s really happening, we can actually fix it.

Your knee is the largest joint in your body, but it’s also the most vulnerable. 👍🏼

Why? It sits between two powerful joints (hip and ankle) that control most of your movement.
When those joints get stiff or weak, your knee pays the price.

If you’re a Madison runner dealing with knee pain, a CrossFit athlete at one of the local boxes, or a weekend warrior playing recreational leagues around Dane County, this explains why focusing only on your knee isn’t working.

Your hip might not be rotating properly from sitting at Epic all day. Your ankle might be stiff from old injuries or poor footwear. Your knee is just caught in the middle, trying to compensate for what’s not working above and below it.

This is why knee-only treatments often fail. We need to look at the whole chain - how your hip moves, how your ankle functions, and how your entire movement pattern affects that knee joint.
