According to the American Psychological Association, too much screen time poses a risk of emotional and behavioral problems in children and teens. This summer, it's essential to recognize the risks of excessive screen time and instead, create organized and structured time for children and teens.

At CHR, we offer an array of Child & Family Outpatient programs to help continue services outside of school, ensuring the success and well-being of children, teens, and their families. We offer convenient hours and telehealth options. Students currently receiving care from CHR therapists at school-based clinics can continue working with their therapists at CHR locations or through telehealth.

CHR Heroes in Action!

George Daniels, Recovery Support Specialist I for ACTT Enfield, was a Hero in Action this month when he provided support to a client who became injured. George swiftly called 911 and, while on speakerphone, wrapped the clients’ injuries, applied the weight of his body to try and stop the bleeding, and helped to ease their worries by staying calm. Upon arrival, the officer stated that George’s interventions “saved the client’s life.” In response to his heroic action, George stated, “In the words of Star Wars: ‘Don’t think…DO!’” We are grateful to George for assisting a client in need and are impressed by his presence of mind in the midst of this crisis. Thank you, George, for all that you do for CHR!

At CHR, we applaud our staff for expanding their knowledge to better assist and understand the children and families we serve. Today, we celebrate Gina Spring, LPCA, who recently obtained her MET/CBT certification.

“I am honored to have received a certification in MET/CBT. Both my parents fell victim to substance abuse and mental illness. However, I witnessed firsthand the power of recovery. My mother was approximately 10 years sober before passing away,” said Spring. “MET/CBT is not just an EBP but a method for clinicians to provide life-changing opportunities to the individuals we serve. It is the difference between choice and chance. We are providing our clients with a chance to refrain from use, improve their mental health, and improve their overall well-being. Through MET/CBT, we can provide our clients with tools, knowledge, support, and resources to better ensure their success, and that means everything to me as a clinician.”

Motivational Enhancement Therapy (MET) and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) are evidence-based interventions that use a person-centered approach to support clients with substance use disorders. While MET focuses on improving an individual's motivation to change, CBT is a behavioral intervention that provides individuals with the skills to cope with high-risk situations that lead to substance use. This combined, evidence-based practice is just one of the many EBPs that CHR uses to effectively treat trauma, substance use, and more.
