There were more than 50 volunteers, 18 joyful kids and countless smiles at the 9th annual GoBabyGo event at Northwestern Medicine Marianjoy Rehabilitation Hospital. Northwestern Medicine volunteers rolled up their sleeves to transform battery-powered toy cars into custom rides for children with disabilities.
Each car was tailored to meet its young driver’s needs — from modified steering to supportive seating — giving many kids their first taste of independence.
“This event changes lives,” says Stephanie Salentine, manager of Rehabilitation Services at Marianjoy Rehabilitation Hospital. “Watching the kids light up as they ‘drive’ for the first time is powerful for everyone involved.”
