⨠More Than Your Diagnosis: Nia Kay â¨
Nia Kay isnât just a name or a label â sheâs a rapper, songwriter, actress, and advocate using her voice to inspire others. đ
At just 3 years old, Nia was diagnosed with T1D. But instead of letting that define her, sheâs turned it into part of her purpose and platform. đś âGo Best Friendâ â one of her singles â highlights the importance of community, encouragement, and living life to the fullest. The song and its music video also feature her real-life experiences with managing type 1 diabetes, helping spread awareness and support.
She is a reminder that your identity is bigger than a label
đ Your diagnosis is part of your story â not the whole story.

102 years ago today, the first human insulin treatment was given to a young patient named Leonard Thompson â a moment that changed the course of diabetes care forever. Before insulin, there were no effective therapies and diabetes was considered a fatal diagnosis; after insulin, there was hope.
From Banting, Best, Macleod, and Collipâs groundbreaking research to the innovations of modern T1D technology, we honor the legacy that began on January 23, 1922 â and the countless lives saved since. đ

Life with type 1 diabetes isnât always a straight sprint. Some days youâre soaring through sensor changes, carb counts, and highs and lows without blinking. Other days feel slower, heavier, or unpredictable â and thatâs okay.
As Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. reminded us:
âIf you canât fly then run, if you canât run then walk, if you canât walk then crawl, but whatever you do you have to keep moving forward.â
At HDYC and Camp Setebaid, we see that spirit every summer. Whether youâre learning something new, trying something brave, or simply showing up again â forward is forward. đ

â˝You Are More Than Your Diagnosis đ
Meet Nacho â defender for Real Madrid and a life long warrior showing that diagnosis doesnât define you. â˝đ§Ą
He was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes at age 12 and told that his âfootballing days were over.â But thanks to care, perseverance, and the support of a doctor who believed in him, Nacho didnât give up. He went on to make 100+ senior appearances for Real Madrid, playing at the highest level of world football.
For Nacho, diabetes isnât a limitation â it's a constant reminder to care for his body, stay disciplined, and show that with heart and determination, ânormalâ becomes extraordinary. Heâs more than his diagnosis.
đSo are you.
