Christan Kelley, Julianne Moore, and Dr. Taylor recently traveled to Honduras for a Medical Mission APPE rotation. Throughout the week they helped run the clinic by seeing patients, managing pharmacy operations, and counseling individuals on their medications. They also conducted home visits for patients unable to travel to the clinic.

In addition to clinical care, they spent time in the local elementary school educating children on dental hygiene and participated in a food program supporting local families. Experiences like these highlight the impact pharmacists can have in expanding access to care and serving communities beyond the traditional pharmacy setting.

We are incredibly proud to highlight Lia and Abigail, who represented Wingate University School of Pharmacy at a competitive healthcare data analytics event this year.

Out of 60 students from 26 pharmacy schools across 17 states, Wingate earned the Top Performer position among the 13 North Carolina competitors—outperforming larger institutions and showcasing the excellence of our program.

Rather than a traditional poster session, this competition challenged teams to analyze real-world healthcare data and develop a quality improvement dashboard. Lia and Abigail focused on early management of severe sepsis at Sparx Hospital, using 2025 admission data to evaluate key performance indicators related to timely IV fluids and antibiotic administration. Their work translated complex clinical data into actionable insights for clinical leadership, highlighting opportunities to improve patient outcomes through earlier intervention and protocol optimization.

This accomplishment reflects the strong reputation Wingate continues to build and the outstanding work of our students. Way to go, Lia and Abigail!
