We’re excited to highlight Class of 2025 alumna Dr. Cesilia Baltazar! She is currently at Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte, NC, completing a PGY1 Acute Care Residency, and next year she will be staying on to complete a PGY2 in Oncology at Levine Cancer Institute. Her presentation was part of her continuing education for her program. Cece stays busy with residency, along with spending time with her husband—they were married the day after graduation. We’re so proud of your hard work and for representing WUSOP!

Pharmal 2026 is here! ✨

Pharmal will be on Friday, April 10, 2026 from 6PM-10PM at South Charlotte Banquet Center in Charlotte, NC. The theme is black and white masquerade! Food and non-alcoholic drinks are included with each ticket purchase. We will have the King of Fire food truck making fresh, made to order brick oven pizzas and the Perfect Batch Bakery will have a dessert waffle station! With each ticket purchase you will receive one drink ticket to use on alcoholic/mocktail drinks. We will have a selection of beer, wine, and signature cocktails to use your drink ticket on. After your tickets are used the bar will turn into a cash bar.

Starting today, January 26th tickets will be on FLASH SALE until next Monday, February 2nd. With the flash sale each ticket will receive 2 additional drink tickets, for a total of 3 drink tickets per person.

Tickets are $60 per person or $100 per couple! Please fill out the google form linked at the link in our bio to reserve your tickets. Please purchase your tickets on the WUSOP Communications page under make a fundraiser payment and select senate. There will be a place to upload your receipt in the google form.

We’re proud to congratulate Dr. Jerry McKee, PharmD, MS, BCPP, FAAPP, on receiving the Saklad Memorial Award from the American Association of Psychiatric Pharmacists (AAPP)—one of the highest honors in psychiatric pharmacy.

Presented annually to a senior psychiatric pharmacy practitioner, the Saklad Memorial Award recognizes a lifetime of professional distinction, passion for optimizing patient care, and continued dedication to advancing the practice of psychiatric pharmacy.

Dr. McKee is a Board-Certified Psychiatric Pharmacist with more than 40 years of leadership experience and currently serves as CEO and Chief Clinical Officer of Psychopharm Solutions LLC, where he works to expand access to behavioral health care and strengthen the role of community pharmacy. A past president of AAPP and nationally recognized expert in psychopharmacology, he is also a highly respected educator and mentor at Wingate University School of Pharmacy.

We are incredibly proud to call Dr. McKee one of our own. Congratulations on this well-deserved honor.

With the new semester starting, Kendra Hofler, a WUSOP alumnus, is sharing her story and how she ended up on her current path!

Hello friends! My name is Kendra Gemmill Hofler and I am a PGY1 Pharmacy Resident at the Salisbury VA Medical Center where I currently focus on ambulatory care management within the Veteran population. My day-to-day work consists of optimizing pharmacotherapy for chronic disease states, providing patient education to support safe medication use, projects, and tasks for my teaching certificate with High Point University.

My path to residency started during pharmacy school, where I explored different rotations, got involved in organizations, research, and leadership and sought mentorship early on. Attending Midyear, preparing my CV, and staying open to feedback were key steps that helped me successfully match. The biggest piece of advice I’d give P4s is to go with your gut when choosing the path you want to take after pharmacy school, ask lots of questions, build relationships, and pursue opportunities that genuinely interest you.
