Most women love a plan, so why not have a perimenopause and menopause plan before you’ve gone down a road of suffering, supplements and health hacks. Good information and solutions exist. The Menopause Society website and it’s “find a provider” is a free resource to start (or dive deeper) in your journey.

Who doesn’t love pie? A Perimenopause pie! Here’s how we can bring together what’s important during this often misunderstood phase. Many solutions can help with multiple section of the pie like a hormonal IUD, hormonal contraceptives (pills, patch,vaginal ring), hormone therapy or procedures (uterine ablation, hysterectomy) and non hormonal options (to manage sleep, mood or menstrual bleeding). What’s in your Perimenopause pie?

Osteoporosis research shared the Menopause Society meeting. Bottom line is in 16K retrospective study - ALL kinds of doctors from endocrinologists, rheumatologists, family practice, internal medicine, OB/GYN, and ortho surgeons, see women at high risk of fracture. The treatment adherence with Abaloparatide (Tymlos) was only 35% at 1 yr. Work to be done to understand how we can improve prescribing for the appropriate women at high risk and adherence to medications that can reduce osteoporosis fractures up to 80%. It takes more patient and clinician education and shared decision making.

Today is world osteoporosis day. Osteoporosis prevention and treatment is an important conversation for every midlife woman. Even before the final menstrual period when we know bone loss starts. Protect your bones, get a screening DXA and if you have osteoporosis - consider all your treatment options. Living with strength, independence and free of fractures is a good look for all women!
