Catching up on journals between races at a swim meet! So glad Contemporary OBGYN highlighted this study (citation below) over 4000 women aged 30-45yrs surveyed about perimenopause symptoms using menopause rating scale. 30% of women saw a medical professional about symptoms which were mostly commonly: hot flashes, pain on initial pe*******on during in*******se, vaginal dryness, frequent urination, irregular cycles, and heart palpitations. Conclusions: the average age of perimenopause is 47yr- but relying on menstrual cycle variability doesn’t accurately reflect the psychological domains (brain fog, concentration, mood) and uro-genital changes that occur much earlier. And are these are the symptoms that are not elicited or addressed at routine annual visits. Call to action for better perimenopause screening tools. https://www.nature.com/articles/s44294-025-00061-3.
