🚨 **Fraud Alert – Help Us Protect Our Community** 🚨
The Goodview Police Department has responded to over $120,000 in reported scam losses in just the first 40 days of 2026. Many of these crimes are targeting our most vulnerable residents — especially seniors. Scammers are becoming more aggressive and sophisticated.
They often pose as:
• Government agencies (IRS, Social Security, Medicare)
• Tech support companies
• Grandchildren or family members in “emergencies”
• Utility companies demanding immediate payment
• Law enforcement officers claiming you owe fines
💳 Gift Card Scam Warning: One of the biggest red flags is being told to purchase gift cards (Apple, Google Play, Target, Walmart, etc.) and provide the numbers over the phone. No legitimate business, government agency, or law enforcement officer will ever demand payment by gift card. If someone asks you to do this — it’s a scam.
🔒 How to Protect Yourself:
• Slow down — scammers pressure you to act immediately.
• Never give personal or banking information to unsolicited callers.
• Do not click on suspicious links in texts or emails.
• Hang up and call the official number of the agency or business directly.
• Talk to a trusted family member or friend before sending money.
• Never pay fines, fees, or “bail money” with gift cards, wire transfers, or cryptocurrency.
👵👴 Check in on seniors in your life. A simple conversation about scams can prevent devastating financial loss.
If you believe you’ve been targeted or victimized, report it immediately to the Goodview Police Department. The sooner we know, the better chance we have of stopping the fraud and protecting others. Let’s work together to keep Goodview safe. 💙
