✨ Advice for medical students interested in FM: This is the one specialty that doesn’t close any doors upon starting residency. You get to develop a competency in working with everyone from pregnant mothers and kids all the way to geriatrics - working inpatient, outpatient and in the community. From there you can mold your practice to focus on whatever it is you love to do. The flexibility to be creative in FM is unlike anything else in medicine.

Holiday weekend means Tuesday is the new Monday!

MEET OUR NEXT ROCKSTAR INTERN

✨ Intern Spotlight ✨

Dr. Cy Fogleman

📍 Hometown: Winston-Salem, NC
📚 Med school: UNC Chapel Hill
🌎 Hobbies: Spending time with family, watching baseball and reading philosophy.
🩺 Medical interests: Rural full scope medicine specifically pediatrics, chronic conditions, mental health and women’s health. I also plan on playing a role in addressing the rural healthcare shortage in our state.
🖤 Why Wake: The curriculum and experiences are very well organized and the people are amazing. The main reason I wanted to come to Wake is because this is my hometown and I have always wanted to serve this area of the state and contribute in a positive way to the people and the place that has given me so many opportunities in life.
🎊 Fun fact: My wife (also a Family Medicine resident) and I met at Wake Forest during college. We were chemistry lab partners and ended up getting married at the chapel at Wake in 2019. We now have an amazing son named Rush who just turned 1.
✨ Advice for medical students interested in FM: Most importantly, find a mentor early on who is in the position that you want to be in and learn from them. Think about the impact that you want to have in medicine and if it aligns with more than one specialty then you would love Family Medicine. Family Medicine doctors and residents also tend to be kind individuals so never hesitate to reach out to one of us with questions as deciding a specialty can be tough. This being said, you can’t go wrong with FM.
