High astigmatism only in one eye????
The patient below had a VERY large difference between the amount of astigmatism of the two eyes.
The patient’s auto refraction/topography (curve and shape of the front surface of the eyes) are pictured here. What is happening?
The first person with the correct diagnosis will get 20% off their final bill (after insurance) at Clear View Optometry, PLLC.

Come for the RED, Stay for the BLACK???
This patient came into Clear View Optometry, because she could see something white on her eye. After just a drop of anesthetic and a quick swipe with a cotton swab, a still unknown white foreign body was removed by the steady hand of a well trained and beloved Optometrist at Clear View. However, something else is lurking just to the left and under the surface of the front of the eye known as the cornea. These anomalies are known as Guttata (black arrows). These guttatas are a sign of a malfunction of the inner lining of the cornea. This layer keeps the cornea from retaining fluid and therefore remaining clear for good vision. At the moment, she was happy to have the foreign body removed, and with her current vision being still pretty good, not need to treat this condition.

Retro day at CVO!
I hear all the time that patient have had cataract surgery twice in the same eye. Well, that is impossible. Having cataract twice in the same eye is like having an ingrown toenail after cutting your foot off. Just cannot happen.
Now, what does happen nearly 50% of the time, sometime after cataract surgery is something known as posterior capsular opacity. Think of a cataract as a cloudy pillow inside of a crystal clear pillow case. The surgeon takes out the pillow, but leave the pillow case. Below is a retro illumination of this 59 year old's "pillow case" that now needs to be lasered clean with a Yttrium Aluminum Garnett Laser (see why we call it a YAG?).
Come to Clear View Optometry, for a YAG evaluation and stay for our cool line of OGI EYEWEAR, State Optical Co. and Dolabany Eyewear!

“Gotta crack a few eggs to make an omelett “
Another successful removal of a foreign body from a construction worker. In this case it was a small metallic object that had rusted.
Here at Clear View Optometry, PLLC, we are a full-service eye care facility on Reynolda Road in Winston-Salem providing glasses, contact lenses and yes the occasional “rust removal!”
We have been fortunate enough and to have been in business long enough to have the current, trustworthy staff we have today, that puts the patient’s needs first and foremost!

A cortical cataract capture by an extremely talented ocular photographer, me, of a 70 year old male. In this case, a “wedge-shaped” denser portion of the lens, inside the eye, clouds much faster than the other part. The most common disease that causes all cataracts is the Birthday Candle Disease or aging.
If you want to find out what other eye problems are caused by this infamous and ubiquitous disease, come to Clear View Optometry, where we specialized in eye related birthday candle diseases.

What very dry eyes look like to an eye doctor. This patient has very dry eyes due to poor eyelid closure because of a previous bout of Bell’s Palsy. Thick gel drops and maybe lid tapping at night can help. Another possible treatment would be Amniotic Membrane Therapy at Clear View Optometry, PLLC where we restore the integrity of the eye with the natural healing of the gift from God!
