May was a busy month for our Wellness Program! 🧘‍♀️💙👟

Pictured are moments from our Women’s Health Circle, Line Dancers, Woof Walkers at Dough Joe’s, and our Midlife Wellness event presented by Mark Allison with Chef's Against Cancer.

Check out these class testimonials from a couple of our residents:

"The Balance & Stretch class has taught me to be aware of my posture and to balance better. These exercises can be done at home...and I find myself doing them all the time."

"I don't always feel like going to exercise, but I push myself to do them, because they have erased my painful arthritis."

At ThriveMore, we believe great leadership is grown from within — and Hannah Word’s journey is a powerful example of that commitment in action.

Six years ago, Hannah Word began her journey at Brookridge Retirement Community with a clear sense of purpose. As a registered nurse supervisor, she arrived with a passion for caring for others and a desire to make a meaningful difference in the lives of residents.

What she found at ThriveMore was more than an opportunity to serve. It was a place where growth, trust and encouragement could shape the path ahead.‍

“Six years ago, I joined ThriveMore as a RN Supervisor for Brookridge Retirement Community with a passion for resident care and a desire to make a difference," she said.‍

Over time, Hannah’s dedication and commitment to exceptional care stood out, but just as important was the way ThriveMore invested in her potential. Mentorship, leadership support and a culture that values each team member helped her continue to grow both professionally and personally. That encouragement made it possible for Hannah to take the next step in her career, eventually stepping into her current role as Director of Nursing.‍

Her story reflects something deeper about ThriveMore’s approach to leadership. Growth here is not just about advancing into new roles, it is about being supported along the way. It is about leaders who recognize potential, even in moments when confidence may waver, and who take the time to invest in the people around them.‍

At the heart of Hannah’s experience is the community she found within her team. Ask her what makes ThriveMore special, and the answer is simple, it is the people.“The culture here is built on teamwork, support, and a shared commitment to providing exceptional care," she said.

What do you do with spaces no one thinks they want? At Brookridge, we saw an opportunity!

Seven studio apartments — once difficult to sell and often overlooked — have been completely transformed into thoughtfully designed “tiny homes” that are now in high demand across our community. Every inch was reimagined to make the space more functional, comfortable, and inviting, all while keeping the focus on what matters most: the lifestyle our residents love.

Today, those same apartments have a waitlist — and even some of our current residents have shared interest in downsizing into these newly designed spaces.

That's because at Brookridge, home is about more than square footage. It’s about:

✨ Connection with neighbors and friends
✨ Beautiful surroundings on our wooded campus
✨ Opportunities to stay active and engaged
✨ A lifestyle that makes each day meaningful

These studio homes are a new way to experience all of that, just in a simpler, more intentional space.

We’re proud of the innovation happening right here in our community, and even more proud of the residents who make Brookridge such a special place to call home.
If you’ve been thinking about what your next chapter could look like, we’d love to show you what’s possible.

A dementia diagnosis doesn’t just affect one person, it changes life for an entire family.

Too often, couples are forced to live apart when one partner needs memory care. The EverTogether Residence we're building at Brookridge is designed to change that by supporting both the person living with dementia and the caregiver walking alongside them.

We’re grateful to the Ryan Blaney Family Foundation for their $25,000 gift to help bring this vision to life. Their commitment to supporting caregivers and families makes this work possible.

The goal is not just better care, but helping people stay together longer and experience a better quality of life along the way. This is what the future of dementia care can look like.

We've been embracing the beautiful spring weather here at Brookridge. Independent Living residents recently celebrated with live music and ice cream -- dancing, talking and laughing together on campus.

This Father’s Day, we want to help make sure the fathers in our community feel remembered, celebrated and loved.

We invite you to spread a little kindness and send Father’s Day cards to the wonderful men at Brookridge Life Plan Community. Many of our residents are fathers, grandfathers, veterans, mentors, and role models who would be deeply touched by a simple card or note of encouragement.

Whether it’s handmade, store bought, funny, heartfelt or faith-filled — every card is appreciated!

If you’d like to participate, please mail cards to:

Brookridge Retirement Home
Attn: Father’s Day Cards
1199 Hayes Forest Drive
Winston-Salem, NC 27106

Please send cards by June 16.

Thank you for helping us remind our residents that they are loved and appreciated!

Today, as the longest-serving member of the dining team, his story reflects the heart of ThriveMore — commitment, resilience and a deep sense of purpose.

As we celebrate 75 years of serving older adults in North Carolina, we’re proud to share the stories of people like Chris who have shaped our communities along the way.
