March is Pediatric Transport Month, and we want to take a moment to recognize the incredible members of the AirCare Neonatal/Pediatric Transport Team for the lifesaving work they do every single day.

Transporting critically ill and injured children requires a special level of skill, compassion, and dedication. The AirCare Neonatal/Pediatric Transport team consistently provides exceptional care while ensuring some of the most vulnerable patients receive the specialized treatment they need as quickly and safely as possible.

From the moment they arrive at the bedside to the moment they deliver their patients to definitive care, their commitment to excellence and their passion for pediatric medicine truly shine. We are grateful for the partnership and for the tireless work they do for the children and families in our region.

Thank you for everything you do!! Happy Pediatric Transport Month!

Employee Shoutout: JC Steinbaugh

JC Steinbaugh is a Flight Nurse with AirCare, serving at AC2 and CCT, and has been part of the team for the past four months.

Originally from Linville, North Carolina, JC brings strong experience from his previous role with Global Medical Response and holds his RN, CEN, CFRN, and NREMT certifications. He shares that what he enjoys most about working at AirCare is being part of a company that prioritizes safety and teamwork while collaborating daily with skilled, professional colleagues. Outside of work, JC enjoys spending time with his family and staying active outdoors through hiking, hunting, and fishing.

To JC, patient care means being fully present, delivering professional and patient-centered interventions, and supporting patients and families when it matters most. His advice to others striving toward their goals is to stay humble, stay focused, and surround yourself with people who challenge, support, and inspire you. JC lives by the words of Ralph Waldo Emerson “Do not go where the path may lead, go instead where there is no path and leave a trail.”

We’re proud to have JC on the AirCare team and look forward to the continued impact he’ll make. If you see him say hello! 🚁

Employee Spotlight: Austin Huntington

Meet Austin Huntington, Flight Paramedic with AirCare 1 based out of Lexington, NC and AirCare 2 based out of North Wilkesboro, NC. Austin also rotates to our ground Critical Care Truck. Originally from Statesville, NC, Austin brings dedication, skill, and heart to every mission. A proud member of the AirCare team for the past two years, he previously served with Iredell County EMS, building the strong foundation that supports his work today.

Austin holds a Bachelor of Science degree along with his NRP AND FP-C certifications. His commitment to excellence shows not only in his credentials but in his approach to patient care. To Austin, patient care means preparing for emergencies before they happen, continually practicing skills, reviewing protocols, and striving to be the best provider and partner possible. He also emphasizes the importance of communication, ensuring patients and their families feel heard, informed, and supported during critical moments.

What does he love most about AirCare? Working alongside top notch clinicians and pilots, forming lasting friendships, and delivering the highest level of care to those who need it most.

Outside of work, you’ll likely find Austin fly fishing or spending quality time with his family.

His advice to anyone chasing their goals: "Don't be afraid to step out of your comfort zone and give everything you do 100%". He lives by the words of Winston Churchill "Success is not final, failure is not fatal: it is the courage to continue that counts".

We’re proud to have Austin as part of the AirCare family! If you see him say hello! 🚁

🚨 EXCITING NEWS FOR AIRCARE 🚨

AirCare is proud to announce that we have successfully launched ECMO (Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation) transports.

This advancement represents a major step forward in our mission to provide the highest level of critical care for patients in our region. ECMO serves as a lifesaving therapy for individuals experiencing severe cardiac or respiratory failure by temporarily taking over the function of the heart and lungs, allowing time for healing and recovery.

By adding ground ECMO transport capability, our teams can now deliver this advanced level of care safely and efficiently, ensuring that patients receive the support they need when every second counts.

We are grateful to our skilled clinicians, transport teams, and hospital partners who made this milestone possible. Together, we continue to expand access to life-saving therapies for the communities we serve.

The attached pictures are from a recent training exercise at Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist High Point Medical Center with the Cardiology Department simulating an ECMO Transfer.
