Yesterday marked the closing of a big chapter in my personal life.

It’s been over 2 years since we’ve separated, and the house we once shared is now officially home to a new family. After closing, we hugged—our first hug as two people fully on our own paths. It was beautiful, moving, and loving in its own way.

Sharing something I wrote to help me close this chapter internally.

The Epiphany

I had a bit of an epiphany
Was it you or was it me?
The thought came to me as clear as can be
Creeping itself thru the crevices of my physche

Maybe it was both of us?
Pouring out of each other
Emptying until there’s no more
Oh, but my heart is so sore
A scar has formed
Visibly layering its history

But not all of it was misery
I see now
It wasn’t just you…
It was me too

I’ve never “performed” my poetry before. Only in my mind as I’m reading for any edits or revisions. Sometimes as a soft whisper. But here, was finding the courage to stand up, get rated by strangers who may judge harshly, and trusting that your work, your art, is beautiful no matter what. Just as we all are.
