The Winston-Salem Police Department (WSPD) is investigating a homicide that occurred at 9:59 PM on 08/19/2025.
VICTIM – Marco Antonio Salazar Cano, a 62 year old male
WHEN: 9:59 PM on August 19, 2025
WHERE: 300 Block of Gregory Street
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF INCIDENT:
Winston-Salem Police Department (WSPD) officers responded to a report of a shooting in the 300 block of Gregory Street. Upon arrival, officers located an individual, later identified as Marco Antonio Salazar Cano, suffering from gunshot wounds.
Emergency Medical Services (EMS) responded and transported Mr. Salazar Cano to a local medical facility, where he later succumbed to his injuries. The WSPD Criminal Investigations Division (CID) responded to the scene and is actively investigating.

VICTIM : Harold Devon Smith, a 57-year-old male

WHERE: 2500 block of Green Oaks Dr.
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF INCIDENT:
Winston-Salem Police Department (WSPD) Officers are investigating a shooting in the 2500 block of Green Oaks Drive. Officers arrived on scene and located Mr. Smith suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. Mr. Smith was transported to a local hospital for treatment, and his injuries are considered non-life threatening. The investigation is ongoing. On 08/03/2025, Winston-Salem Police Department (WSPD) officers responded to a report of a shooting in the 3000 block of North Patterson Avenue. Upon arrival, officers discovered an individual, later identified as Deshaun Christian Capers, on the ground suffering from gunshot wounds. Emergency Medical Services (EMS) arrived on scene. Mr. Capers was pronounced deceased at the scene.

BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF INCIDENT:
Winston-Salem Police Department (WSPD) Officers responded to a report of a shooting in the 900 block of Cameron Avenue. Upon arrival, officers located three (3) individuals— a 17-year-old, an 18-year-old, and a 23-year-old—lying outside a residence with apparent gunshot wounds. Emergency Medical Services (EMS) responded and pronounced all three (3) individuals deceased at the scene.

Initial information suggests a gathering was taking place at the location when the shooting occurred. At this time, it is unclear what led to the incident, and the relationship between the individuals involved remains unknown.

On 08/01/2025 at 7:45 PM, Winston-Salem Police Department (WSPD) officers responded to a report of a shooting in the 4800 block of Berl Street. Upon arrival, officers located a 16-year-old Juvenile, on the ground suffering from gunshot wounds.
Emergency Medical Services (EMS) arrived on scene. The Juvenile was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The Winston-Salem Police Department (WSPD) is investigating a homicide that occurred in the early morning hours on July 13, 2025.
WHAT: Homicide
WHO: VICTIM #1 - Tazhae Jamier Woods, 23-year old male.

VICTIM #3 - Brandon Terrell Ducket, 28-year old male.
VICTIM #4 - Yazlin Chegue Mendoza, 27-year old female.

WHEN: July 13, 2025, at 3:59 A.M.
WHERE: 71 Waughtown Street, Winston-Salem, NC
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF INCIDENT:
At approximately 3:59 A.M. on July 13, 2025, the Winston-Salem Police Department (WSPD) responded to a report of a shooting at 71 Waughtown Street. Upon arrival, officers located evidence of a shooting in the parking lot and street in front of the business, Studio 71. While on the scene, two individuals - identified as Brandon Duckett and Yazlin Mendoza were located suffering from gunshot wounds. Forsyth County EMS responded and both victims were transported to a local hospital for their injuries, which are non-life threatening. A short time later, Tazhae Woods and Tremayne Butler arrived at Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center in a vehicle after leaving the area of 71 Waughtown Street. Mr. Woods, who had been shot, ultimately died injuries he received. Mr. Butler, who was also in a vehicle that was shot into, was not injured. The WSPD Criminal Investigations Division (CID) responded to the scene and is actively investigating this case. During the initial investigation this morning, it was estimated that approximately 150-200 people were present when the incident occurred. However, none of the witnesses were willing to provide information to assist detectives in understanding what took place. Investigators are urging anyone with information to come forward and speak with local law enforcement.

At approximately 11:06 P.M. on July 11, 2025, the Winston-Salem Police Department (WSPD) responded to a report of a shooting at 1261 Waughtown Street. Upon arrival, officers located an individual - identified as Mr. Julio Cesar Vargas-Olmedo—outside of the residence suffering from gunshot wounds. Emergency Medical Services (EMS) responded to the scene; however, despite life-saving efforts, Mr. Vargas-Olmedo was pronounced deceased. WHERE: 3600 block of Cash Drive
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF INCIDENT:
On 07/06/2025, Winston-Salem Police Department (WSPD) Officers responded to a reported shooting in the 3600 block of Cash Drive. Upon arrival, officers discovered an individual, later identified as Anthony Ciriza suffering from gunshot wounds. Mr. Ciriza was transported to a local medical facility by Forsyth County EMS where he remains in critical, but stable condition. Jesse Flores Colon was transported to a local medical facility by a private vehicle and is being treated for injuries sustained from gunshot wounds. Mr. Flores remains in critical, but stable condintion. A third Juvenile victim was also transported to a local medical facility by a private vehicle and is being treated for injuries sustained from a gunshot wound. The Juvenile victim is in stable condition.

Winston-Salem Police Department (WSPD) Officers are investigating a shooting at 1022 East Fifteenth Street. Preliminary investigation revealed that a disturbance took place inside the apartment and gunshots were fired. As a result, Ms. Joyner and a juvenile were struck by gunfire and transported to local hospitals. The injuries are considered non-life-threatening and the investigation is ongoing.

VICTIM – Pariss Tucker Baines, a 50-year-old female
WHEN: June 13, 2025, at 9:21pm
WHERE: 2425 Old Greensboro Rd
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF INCIDENT:
At approximately 9:21 p.m., Winston-Salem Police Department (WSPD) Officers responded to multiple reports of people shooting and someone being shot at 2425 Old Greensboro Rd. Upon their arrival, officers discovered a female, later identified as Pariss Tucker Baines, in her apartment, suffering from a gunshot wound(s). Ms. Baines had been outside her apartment when she was shot and carried into her apartment by bystanders. Emergency Medical Services (EMS) arrived on scene to assist. Despite their efforts, Ms. Baines was pronounced deceased at the scene. Her next of kin has been notified.

Initial responding officers located a second adult female, inside a separate apartment, that was also suffering from a gunshot wound. It appears she was shot while she was inside the apartment. EMS transferred the second victim to a local hospital where she is being treated for her injuries. Her condition is considered serious but stable.

The WSPD Criminal Investigations Division (CID) responded to the scene and is actively investigating. At this point, it appears that two groups of subjects were shooting at each other across the parking lot.
