This week, residents got an exclusive preview of something truly one-of-a-kind: Second Serving Studios from Project Space 411 in downtown Winston-Salem—the only nonprofit media studio in the country with dedicated culinary filming capabilities.

Designed as a home for food and lifestyle content creators, this space is a vibrant hub for learning, innovation, and connection. Residents had the opportunity to enjoy a chef-led culinary demonstration followed by a shared meal.

At Arbor Acres, we love taking advantage of the unique opportunities that surround us right here in Winston-Salem—the City of Arts and Innovation. From food and storytelling to community and culture, opportunities like these remind us how lucky we are to live where creativity thrives.

We’re proud to share that our licensed healthcare areas have once again been found deficiency-free in all clinical areas following an unannounced state inspection—for the third year in a row!

This achievement reflects the professionalism, dedication, respect, and high-quality care our healthcare team provides to our residents every day.

We are grateful to our exceptional healthcare Artists for consistently setting the standard for excellence.

A food truck celebration is a small token of appreciation for the extraordinarily high bar you uphold every day.

Congratulations!

We are deeply grateful to LeadingAge North Carolina for recognizing Lewis' extraordinary talent and commitment to excellence!

We are continuing our journey across member communities to celebrate the leaders whose everyday actions make a lasting impact.

We are proud to recognize Lewis Krider, Director of Environmental Arts at Arbor Acres (Winston-Salem, NC), recipient of a 2026 Excellence in Leadership Award.

This year, we are expanding how we celebrate. While some honorees will be recognized at our Annual Conference, we are also visiting member communities, bringing many of these awards directly to the places where care, service, and leadership come to life every day.

At Arbor Acres, where employees are known as “Artists," Lewis leads with a deep sense of presence, care, and respect for every person he serves alongside. From daily rounds that strengthen safety and accountability, to small but meaningful acts like personally welcoming new residents and labeling belongings to ease transitions, his leadership shows up in the details. He also fosters connection within his team through traditions that build morale, celebrate milestones, and create joy across departments.

Lewis’s leadership reflects what it means to make people feel seen, valued, and at home.

Thank you for your leadership, and congratulations to Lewis and the Arbor Acres community!

Croquet season is officially in full swing at Arbor Acres!

More than 100 residents gathered for today’s Spring Croquet Luncheon to celebrate one of our most popular resident-run campus activities and learn about upcoming events.

Here, croquet is more than just a game. It's an example of active living that supports well‑being, provides balance, builds community, and gives every day a sense of purpose.

Let the spring season begin!

Our Monday morning aerobics class gets a special boost each week thanks to two Wake Forest University sophomores, Alex Walker (front row, left) and Madeline Alfieri (front row, right). This semester they are volunteering their time at Arbor Acres, joining residents for shared activities and storytelling.

Another wonderful example of the power of intergenerational connections--bringing fresh perspectives, reducing ageism, and building a meaningful sense of purpose for everyone involved.

Our Life Enrichment team did it again!

Yesterday's magical Spring Bloom Festival brought staff, residents, children, and grandchildren together for moments full of joy—complete with a petting zoo, Easter egg hunt, festive food, live music, local vendors, and a special visit from a beloved long-eared guest.

What a beautiful celebration of spring and intergenerational fun!

Happy Easter from all of us!

In a heartfelt Good Friday tradition rooted in Moravian heritage, residents and family members of all faiths gathered this morning at Arbor Acres’ own God’s Acre to decorate gravestones.

Located at the end of Cokesbury Drive, the cemetery is all that remains of the Wachovia Arbor Moravian Church, founded in 1893 and lost to fire on December 26, 1989--a quiet but powerful link to our shared history.
