The Life Enrichment Team created another fabulous experience today, helping residents and staff beat the heat with some tropical holiday fun! Santa hats, leis, Hawaiian Christmas shirts, shopping sprees, festive music, pink pelicans, Kona ice cups, and Rance the Canine Companion Reindeer Dog brought smiles to faces and joy to our world! Christmas came in July--only 153 days until the real thing! Mele Kalikimaka from all of us!

Congratulations to our incredible CNAs who have been recognized in this year's ANGELS program! Their sacred work in caring for residents is unmatched. The program was first started by resident Betty Strickland to recognize the exceptional care CNAs offered her husband. Recipients receive a rose, angel pin, and bonus award. This year, Betty's daughter, Cinny, and close friend and Arbor Acres resident Betty Sutton, participated in what has become an annual celebration.

Resident Becky Wyatt gave her artist talk today, She Found Her Truth, as an introduction to her work that hangs in the Galleria for the next two months. Her family flew in from around the country to share this special moment! Becky was inspired to take up watercolor painting by her grandmother, a self-taught artist, but Becky didn't start painting until the age of 50. Such a natural and prolific talent! Congratulations, Becky!

Meet Our Board Members

Jack Lauer has served on the Arbor Acres Board for five years, four of those as Treasurer. Jack says he agreed to join the Board because he wanted to help maintain Arbor Acres’ positive image and reputation, about which he has personal experience: His mother-in-law, Martha Kirby, has been a resident of Arbor Acres for more than 15 years. Jack and Arbor Acres CFO David Matthews worked together in a prior professional relationship. Jack recently retired after 13 years from his position as CFO for Pine Hall Brick in Winston-Salem. Retirement will allow him to spend more time playing ice hockey and golf, as well as hiking. His true passion is collecting old baseball cards. Thank you for your service, Jack!
